Availability of Replacement Draw Bars for Roadmaster Base Plate on 2004 Honda CR-V
Question:
I purchased a 2004 Honda CR-V with a roadmaster base plate 1541-1 and the owner could not find the draw bars. I am connecting the car to the Reese tow ready tow bar # 63180. Will the removable draw bars from your Roadmaster base plate MX 1541-5 fit into the 1541-1 base plate and work on my reese tow bar without using the universal bumper brackets # 40602. What is your I.D. on the tow bar end of those particular draw bars 1541-5 MX ? All of these numbers are on your web site. Thank you in advance for your help.

The removable draw bars for the two base plates you reference are not compatible. Roadmaster MX Base Plate Kit # 1541-5 uses removable draw bars # C-000637 and # C-000638.
Roadmaster base plate kit # 1541-1 uses removable draw bars # C-000293 and # C-000294.
You can get replacement arms using # RM-ARMS. There is a link on the page at the right that is actually a form that needs to be filled out so we can be sure Roadmaster makes the correct arms. I recommend contacting our customer service team for assistance filling out the form.
If you go with the Tow Ready tow bar # 63180, you will need an extra adapter (part # RM-025) to use with the base plates since they are a different manufacturer, and you will be limited to 45 miles per hour.
Replacement Bumper Bracket Kit # 40602 is a replacement part for a tow bar and is not needed for your vehicle.
To complete your tow package you will also need safety cables. I recommend Roadmaster Safety Cables, # RM-643. These are coiled so they will not drag on the ground.
The next component you will need to flat tow your vehicle is lighting. There are actually several lighting methods depending on your needs and how often you will be towing the vehicle. I have included a link to our series of FAQ articles on flat towing, some of which cover choosing the best lighting for your needs.
Also most states require a supplemental braking system on the vehicle being towed. The easiest to install and use is the Roadmaster Even Brake Portable Proportional Braking System, # RM-9400. This unit activates the brakes on the vehicle being towed in proportion to how much the towing vehicle is braking. This is the safest type of braking action and it reduces wear and tear on the CR-V and your towed vehicle brakes.
You will also want to check the vehicle owner's manual for additional information on flat towing the vehicle. Some vehicles require an axle disconnect, drive line disconnect, transmission lube pump, or free wheeling hubs in order to be flat towed.
