Recommended Winch for a Ski Nautique 206

Question:

I have a Ski Nautique 206. The weight is approximately 3000 lbs. I’m looking for a trailer wench with a strap. The issue we are having is the bolt in the wench we have is bent. How do we prevent this from happening again?

Georgia, it sounds like the winch you're currently using may not be rated high enough to support the weight of your ski. That, or the bolt itself is not beefy enough.

To make sure this does not happen again, I'd suggest using a winch that is adequately rated for your ski like the Fulton 2-Speed Trailer Winch # F142424 which has a 3,200 lb capacity.

Thank you Bryce The wench I purchase was rated for 350@ lbs but I purchased it on Amazon, so who knows … probably a Chinese knock-off. I appreciate your response. Regards, Georgia

@BryceD Unfortunately, the wench you recommended is too big for my trailer. It’s not possible to mount it on the trailer bracket. Can I return it and get something smaller? I read something on your site that stated that a 2:1 wench will work for boats. So, if my boat is 3000 lbs, a wench rated at 1500 lbs should work. What are your thoughts.

@GeorgiaF Sorry to hear that Georgia, yes you can use a bit smaller winch to achieve the same goal. With that said, I'd recommend going with the Fulton F2 Fully Enclosed Trailer Winch with Strap and Adjustable Handle # FW16000101 which has a 1,600 lb capacity. This winch is a bit smaller, with a base that measures 6 1/4" L x 3 3/4" W and has an adjustable handle to balance torque, speed, and clearance.
