Hi Dennis; you aren't going to find information on the static load listed from the roof rack manufacturers. Our general guidelines for tents like the Y79XR are that the roof rack must have a minimum load capacity of 165 lbs which this rack does have. However, roof top tents require racks mounted on raised side rails, fixed mounting points, or flush side rails. They are not compatible with roof racks for naked roofs that clamp to the door jambs like the # TH48KG.

I don't see any requirements or instructions listed on the Topoak site, and it isn't something that we carry, so I would confirm this is with Topoak just to be sure. The Thule rack is a complete roof rack so if they ok using a roof rack that mounts to the door jamb this comes with everything you need under a single part number. If they say the tent will not work with a roof rack for a naked roof your only options are to add tracks to the top or mount it on a ladder rack.

unfortunately TopOak cannot give any clear answer they only showed concern about weight capacity so far... how do I add tracks to the roof? I don't see the option at Ford, they offer Yakima roof rack system i believe it's similar to Thule... do you have the same Yakima ? although I like the more cause it a bit lower profile...

@Dennis that is pretty frustrating since they make the tent. Without any guidance I would definitely say the door jamb mounting is a no. I would have expected a no from them anyway but you never know what a company might have tested and approved for their design. That Yakima roof rack has the same mounting style as the Thule. If you want to add tracks like # THTP42 you're going to be drilling into the roof which I don't really recommend on a brand new F-250, you probably don't want to do that either, but you certainly can. I would say the ladder rack is the better option if possible.

@RobinH yeah their customer support happened to be pretty ridiculous, answering with very general phrases about weight capacity... can you tell - what's the 'ladder rack'? do you have it on eTrailer? could you point with the link please?

@Dennis sorry if I was vague with that but there are a lot of options. I'm talking about a ladder rack like the Yakima OutPost HD Overland Truck Bed Rack # Y01152-59 or OverHaul HD # Y01151-59. Both of these fit the 6-3/4' and 8' bed but some others may be bed length specific. You can choose a bed length if you click the link I attached below to all of our available ladder racks. If you have a tonneau cover, or plan to add one, that is another thing to consider since a lot of ladder racks are not compatible or are only compatible with specific brands/styles.
