Troubleshooting Trailer Left Turn/Stop Circuit Not Functioning

Everything on the pickup works, all the fuses are good. The yellow wire has no power at the pickup receptical, that encludes checking the wire comming into the receptical. It stumped me and the electrician. Decided to run a wire down from the left tail light, all that did was, I had the turn signal but when I stepped on the brake it canceled the left blinker out, so I disconnected that. I could probably get away with running like that but I want it right. I contacted you already and you told me to check the fuses in witch we already did.

If the fuses are good and there still isn't voltage on the left turn/stop signal then the problem lies somewhere in the wiring. I wish I knew exactly where to look, but you will have to start at the trailer connector with a circuit tester like part # PTW2993 and trace the wire back up through the vehicle trying to find where the short is a fix as necessary.

The only way you could bypass your current trailer wiring to get the correct signal would be to use a Curt Wiring Harness part # 56146KIT. You would need to cut the 4-way off of this harness and run the yellow wire to your current left turn/stop circuit, run the power wire to your vehicle battery, run the red wire to the stop light circuit, run the yellow wire of the input side to the left turn circuit, and then ground the white wire.

I attached an FAQ on troubleshooting 4-way installs for you to check out as well.
