Can 2006 Honda Accord Hybrid Carry 2 Electric Bikes On Hitch Mounted Carrier
Question:
Hi, I just purchased 2 ebikes. one bike is the bh emotion neo carbon 45lbs. and the other is an izip ultra 52 lbs. I have a 2006 Honda Accord Hybrid that I need to purchase a bike rack and receiver for. Can you recommend the best setup? I heard the hollywood sportrack is the only rack sold for ebikes. If so can you recommend the proper receiver for my ebikes and type of car?. I will be making the purchase this coming week and am a serious buyer. Thank you in advance for your prompt reply...

According to the owner's manual for your 2006 Honda Accord Hybrid, the maximum tongue weight is 100 lbs for your vehicle. The tongue weight would include the weight of the bikes along with the weight of any carrier you place in a receiver. With the combined weight of the bikes you said you just purchased at 97 lbs, we would not have any carriers available that would keep you under the maximum weight capacity. The weight of the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider SE 2-Bike Carrier, part # HLY84FR alone is just under 55 lbs.
Another option would be to use a small trailer like the Yakima Rack and Roll Trailer, part # Y08106, and then a roof rack carrier for the bikes. This trailer weighs 150 lbs and has a weight capacity of 250 lbs, and comes with an installed roof rack that will allow you to install bike carriers that can hold your 2 electric bikes.
You would then need a trailer hitch installed, ball mount, hitch ball, and wiring to accommodate the trailer. If you would be interested in a trailer and carriers that would hold the bikes, let me know and I can recommend everything you will need to be able to carry your new bikes.
