From the research I did it looks like the exhaust pipe diameter that is used on your 1991 Volkswagen Jetta with a 1.8 liter is 1-3/4 inches. For a universal muffler that would work you would want the MagnaFlow Stainless Steel, Straight-Through Universal Muffler # MF11113. This won't be a direct bolt up, but if there was a section of pipe that you could remove 14 inches from this would fit right in it's place.
