Comparison of Class I Hitches # 24816 and # C11386 Offered for the 2009 Mazda 3
Question:
Im looking at the 2009 Mazda 3 hitches: Draw-Tite and Curt. Do they have the same mount points? Is the metal the same thickness? Do they stick out the same distance? Can you tell me what the difference between the 2 is? Thanks in advance.

For any given vehicle the different available hitches will use the very same mounting points on the vehicle frame for installation. Hitches are typically offered in one or more Classes (to indicate their varying capacities) if the vehicle frame is strong enough to support the load of a high-capacity hitch. In the case of your 2009 Mazda 3 the vehicle frame is robust enough for a light-duty Class I hitch only.
The Curt and Draw-Tite hitches you referenced, part # 24816 and # C11386, have identical capacities, share just about identical construction (including the thickness of the steel used) and will sit at the back of your Mazda 3 in virtually the same spot. Both also include a hitch pin and clip.
The only functional difference between the two is that Curt requires use of a stabilizing strap # 18050 for any non-trailer load such as a bike rack or cargo basket in order to retain warranty coverage. The Draw-Tite does not have this requirement. Two linked articles concerning hitch installation may be of interest.
