Can Trailer Wiring Harnesses Be Removed if the Vehicle will No Longer Tow

I have a 01 Jeep Grand cherokee and recently changed my fuel pump. After doing so I started having problems with my driver side taillight. I have bought new bulbs and also a new taillight..still not my problem. I believe that its my converter but do not exactly knw how to change it out and was wndering if I still needed it even though i do not hsve my hitch still? Everytime i pick the converter up it pops like there i a short inside of it but doesnt open. can just get rid of the whole converter?

If you no longer have a use for trailer wiring you could definitely remove the trailer wiring converter box. Especially if it's making funny noises like it's shorting out. Try un-installing the trailer wiring harness and see if your taillight issues clear up.
