Recommended Load Rating for ST175/80-13 Tires on 2000 lb Boston Whaler Boat and Trailer

Question:

I have a 17foot Boston Whaler with trailer. Total loaded weight with trailer is approx. 2000 lbs. The tire size is ST-175-80R-13..What rating tire do I need to be safe?? And do you have them in stock, as I am going to replace both of my older tires? Thanks

Due to the fact that they shed heat better and would therefore have longer tread life, I'd recommend you go with a radial tire. We offer a Load Range C and D radial tire in the 175/80-13 size. The Load Range C tire, part # AM10199 has a capacity of 1360 lbs when properly inflated to 50 psi. A pair would have a 2720 lb capacity. The Load Range D tire, part # AM10210 has a 1610 lb capacity at 65 psi, a pair would have a 3220 lb capacity.

Since the capacity of two of either tire exceeds the weight of the boat plus the trailer, either tire would work great for you. I'd personally choose the Load Range D tire. There's not much of a price differential, and a bit of overkill is never a bad thing. Keep in mind, going with a higher rated tire won't increase the weight capacity of the trailer. You'll be limited by the capacity of the lowest-rated component of the towing system.

We also offer wheel/tire combos. If you could reply with the bolt pattern of your existing wheels (see link), I'd be happy to make some recommendations.

I've linked you to an informational article about trailer tires. I hope you'll find it helpful.
