My Draw Bar Will Not Fit All the Way Inside My Draw-Tite Hitch 24812 on my Pontiac Vibe
Question:
I recently bought a Draw-Tite hitch #24812 for my Pontiac Vibe. Today, when I attempted to use my drawbar, I found the shank wouldnt go all the way into the receiver, because of a stop in the side. I was told by Draw-Tite that this is intentional, so that you have to use their drawbar. They also said all of their 1 1/4 hitches are normally sold with a drawbar, so there is usually not a fitment problem. I was able to work around this problem, but I wish I had known this when I bought the hitch.

The stop inside the hitch is not to force customers to purchase certain brand products, but to ensure that a Class II draw bar is not inserted into a Class I hitch.
The Draw-Tite hitch you have, part # 24812, is a Class I hitch so if the welded stop inside is preventing the draw bar from going all the way in, you have a Class II drawbar.
The recommended draw bar for this particular hitch is part # 3593. This draw bar will fit your hitch and will be at the proper height for trailers that fit in the weight capacity range for your hitch. If the draw bar is too low for the trailer, chances are that trailer exceeds the towing capacity of your vehicle or hitch.
