Question:
Our standard 2 inch ball hitch has separted twice while under tow. Would a pintle ball combo be a good item to prevent this, or would it bind? Towing small boat with not much touge weight.

If your trailer has come off of your 2 inch trailer ball one of two things are happening. Either the coupler of your trailer is designed for a 2-5/16 inch ball or the latch of your coupler isn't functioning.
For a 2-5/16 inch ball check out the link I attached. You will need to know the diameter of the hole in your ball mount to pick out the correct ball.
We offer several repair kits for trailer couplers as well that could work. Without knowing what coupler you have it would be hard for me to pick out the correct one. Take a look at your coupler and see if you can find a brand or model number and then check out the link I attached to the right.
Another option would be to replace the whole coupler. Which I attached a link to a page that has all of them as well.
The purpose of a pintle hitch that has a hitch ball is not for the arm of the pintle to put pressure on the coupler of the trailer. When using a pinble combo hitch with a ball coupler the arm would stay up. It would only come down if you were towing a trailer that had a lunette ring.
