Distance From Hitch Pin Hole to Curve in Shank on Reese Weight Distribution Shank # RP63971

Question:

I would like to mount a swagman xcs traveller on this. I will need to know the distance between the pin hole on the shank to where the shank starts to curve down to see if there is enough room. The receiver on my explorer is about 11/2 inches from the center of the pin hole to the end of the reciever. The xcs needs 3 inches so I need 4 1/2 or 5 inches of shank to mount the xcs

The shank you referenced, Reese Weight Distribution Shank # RP63971, is intended for use in the drop position only with their weight distribution systems that use either round or trunnion spring bars. I pulled a sample of the Reese shank # RP63971 to take the measurement you requested. As shown in the linked photo that I prepared for you, the distance from the center of the hitch pin hole to the point on the shank where the curvature begins measures 3-1/2-inches.

Unless you are using such a weight distribution system you may prefer to use a standard extra-long ball mount such as one of those shown on the link at right. For example, we offer the # BM20 from Brophy which is an extra long 2-inch shank. Reese does not test its weight distribution shanks with accessory items.
