Comparison Between Class V Hitches That Are Welded Together And Hitches That Are Bolted Together

Question:

Since this hitchs crossbar is welded to the upright brackets, is it as strong as the hitches such as Curt 15325 which use nuts and bolts to attach the crossbar to the upright brackets? Also - Is a step bumper considered a deep bumper even if it is not the old cowboy style?

Part # C15325 has a maximum gross trailer weight capacity of 16,000 lbs and 17,000 when using weight distribution. The tongue weight capacity is 2,400 lbs and 2,400 lbs when used with weight distribution. This hitch is designed to be used on trucks without a 10 inch step bumper.

This is a Class V hitch and has a 2 inch receiver opening.

Another Class V hitch that may work for you if your truck has the 10 inch step bumper is part # C15317. This has the same characteristics as the # C15325, but works with a step bumper.

If you need a ball mount and hitch ball I recommend the etrailer.com Ball Mount kit, part # 989900. This kit includes 2 ball mounts, 2 hitch balls and the pin and clip along with a handy storage bag. I have attached a product review video for this kit you can check out.

For peace of mind when using anything attached to the hitch I recommend a trailer hitch receiver lock like part # 1480DAT by Master Lock. This lock has a 5/8 inch diameter pin and is made of corrosion resistant stainless steel.
