Will this roof top bag fit on my Acura MDX 2013? Will it attach securely to only the side rails?

The Thule roof top cargo bag # TH869 you referenced isn't listed as a fit on your 2013 Acura MDX.
What I recommend is the Rightline Sport rooftop cargo bag # RL100S30 because it will mount on bare roofs, roof racks or cargo baskets on SUVs or minivans. It has 18 cubic feet of cargo room and it's weatherproof. See picture to the right.
I would run the included straps through your 2013 Acura MDX interior and then out around the carrier. You can attach the straps to your existing side rails.
A protective roof pad such as # RL100650 will protect your vehicle from scratches and any potential sharp objects from dinging your 2013 Acura MDX roof.
I would recommend you check the owners manual of your vehicle to determine the weight capacity and be sure not to exceed this figure with the weight of the cargo you plan on carrying.
