Will Thule Force Medium Rooftop Cargo Box TH624 Fit Factory Crossbars on 2010 Jeep Commander

is it recommended for 2010 jeep commander? roof racks are approx. 3 inches wide.

Expert Reply:

The Thule Force Medium Rooftop Cargo Box # TH6356B that you referenced is designed to fit a range of factory-installed and aftermarket roof rack crossbars. It will accept both the standard and the sports crossbars offered on your Commander as long as their centers are at least 23-5/8-inches apart, when measured center to center.

You can confirm that this cargo box will fit on your Commander without interfering with full opening of the rear hatch by taking one simple measurement. With the front crossbar as far forward as it can be, measure from its center to the seam where the roof and hatch meet. If this distance is at least 41-78-inches then you'll be able to open the hatch fully even with the box in place.

Keep in mind that all vehicles have a roof weight capacity, noted in your owner's manual or available from your dealership. The roof weight rating has to account for the weight of the cargo box itself, 35-lbs in the case of the Force Medium, plus the weight of what you load into it. For example, if your manual says the Commander has a 150-lb roof weight capacity, then your loaded cargo can weigh as much as 110-lbs which is the box's maximum capacity.

Often customers that use rooftop cargo, bike or kayak carriers choose a handy accessory item, a tire step. The HitchMate TireStep # HE4040 comes fully-assembled and simply slips over a rear tire to give you easier access to your cargo box for loading and unloading. It folds up for storage inside the vehicle.

We also offer Telesteps folding step # TE97FR. This lightweight aluminum step comes fully assembled and unfold instantly to give you a foot of extra reach for your loading and unloading processes.
