To completely rewire your cargo trailer, I would recommend picking up a trailer light kit like the Standard Light Kit, # TL5RK, or # TLL9RK for LED lights. These kits include all necessary wiring and hardware needed to install the lights on your trailer. The LED light kit does not include clearance lights. To add clearance lights, I would recommend using # MCL31AB.

The best option would be the LED lights because they only use a fraction of the power that the incandescent lights use. If you decide to add additional clearance or tail lights in the future, you would not have to worry about excessive amperage draw with the LED lights.

Please note, if you have an aftermarket wiring harness installed on your tow vehicle, it is important to check the maximum amperage capacity of your vehicle wiring harness to ensure the incandescent light kit will not overload the harness. The incandescent lights will draw approximately 2.5 amps for the stop/turn function per light.

I have attached a video showing how to install a light kit on a trailer as well as an FAQ article on trailer wiring for you to check out.

If your trailer has electric brakes, then you will also want to pick up an additional length of wire, # 10-1-1, to run from the trailer connector to your brakes. You may also need additional butt connectors, # 05732-2, to attach this wire to the wires for your brakes.

Once we have the lights and brakes figured out for your trailer, we need to determine what type of trailer connector you will use. The trailer light kits that I referenced above include the basic 4-flat connectors, but if you need a different type of connector such as a 5-way, 6-way or 7-way connector, then check out the link that I have attached to all of the trailer connectors that we carry.

The wiring article that I attached explains how to wire the different styles of connectors if it is necessary for your set up.
