Looking to buy a 2007 honda element to tow dirtbikes on a 4x8trailer. My question is can I install a 1-1/4 hitch instead of 2 inch? Altogether weight is like 1300 lbs. Element rated to tow 1400

If there's a possibility you might use the hitch as a mounting point for a hitch accessory like a cargo carrying tray or a bike rack, you might want to consider going with the Class III hitch with the 2 inch receiver opening. The 2 inch receiver size is more common and there are many more accessories available for it. If you decide to go with a 2 inch hitch, I'd recommend the Draw-Tite Class III trailer hitch, part # 25659. You'll also need a ball mount, part # 2923 and a 1-7/8 inch ball, part # 19260 or a 2 inch ball, part # 63845.
If all you'll be doing is towing your small trailer, you can certainly install a Class I hitch with the 1-1/4 inch receiver. For an SC model, use the Class I # 24720. You'll need the appropriately-sized ball mount and trailer ball. For a 1-7/8 inch ball, use part # 19256 or # 19258 for an 8 inch ball.
For a trailer wiring harness, use part # 118465.
