Trailer Hitch for Carrying a Bike Rack on a 2005 Honda Accord Coupe

Question:

I would like to get a hitch to install a bike rack on for my 2005 Honda Accord Coupe. Can you give me a good recommendation? I have not purchased the bike rack yet so I would like a hitch that will work for many different bike racks.

For your 2005 Honda Accord, I recommend the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch, # 24787. This is a Class I, 1-1/4 inch receiver opening hitch with 2,000 pounds of gross trailer weight capacity, and between 200 and 300 pounds of tongue weight capacity. All of the hitches available for your vehicle are Class I, 1-1/4 inch hitches. This limits the bike racks you can attach to those that will fit in a Class I, 1-1/4 inch receiver hitch. I have included a link to the instructions for the Draw-Tite hitch below.

We have many that will fit this hitch. I have included a link to a page with the bike racks that will fit in Class I hitches. The important thing to remember is not to exceed the tongue weight capacity of the vehicle (check your owners manual) and the tongue weight capacity of the hitch. Keep that in mind when selecting a bike rack.

I would recommend the Swagman XC2 Wheel Mount Bike Rack, item # S64650, for your vehicle and Class I hitch. I have personal experience with this rack on a 2009 Ford Escape and it works very well, securing the bikes and providing clearance for steep drives and dips in the road.
