Review of B and W Ball Mounts BWTS20048B

Today we're going to be taking a look at the B&W Tow & Stow 3-Ball Mount. This ball mount is designed for a 2 1/2 inch by 2 1/2 inch trailer hitch receiver. It's going to offer a maximum gross towing weight capacity of 14,500 pounds, and a maximum tongue weight capacity of 1,450 pounds. The ball mount, with the built-in hitch balls, that's going to let you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. The shank, which is this portion here, is going to slide into the receiver tube of your hitch, and then the hitch balls are going to provide the connection points for your trailer coupler. Now, this ball mount does feature a stowable design. What that does is it lets you store the ball mount and the platform underneath your vehicle, and on the opposite side of this shank.

In order to do that, you're going to need to remove 2 pins, very easy to do, and then we're going to allow the platform and the hitch balls to rotate on the underside. Just like that, so when I mean underside, I mean it's actually going to sit underneath the hitch, underneath the vehicle, on the opposite side of the shank. Really nice design. You would secure it in place by reinstalling the pins and clips. What this does, though, is it gives you that flush design at the back of the vehicle, really adds a clean look to it, but also when you're maneuvering or walking around the back of the vehicle, you don't have to worry about running into or hitting your legs on the actual hitch balls, so it's a really nice design. Another thing I want to point out is that you can adjust the height.

It's going to let you tow trailers of different heights by using the same vehicle and the same mount. It's also going to help ensure that the ball height is level with the coupler height. All you have to do is slide the platform right here, up and down the shank. Now this shank can be used in the drop position, which is what I'm showing you now, or this can be flipped over and used in the rise position as well. The distance between these mount holes here on the side, you can see right in there, it's going to be 1 3/8 of an inch, center on center, so the adjustable height just really makes this a versatile mount. Once you have the height set for your application, go ahead and lock that in place or secure it, by reinstalling the pins, and then securing it with the clips on the other side. Now the unit's going to come with 3 different size hitch balls.

That's going to let you tow trailers with different coupler sizes. We're going to have our 1 7/8 inch ball, a 2-inch ball, and a 2 5/16 inch ball. To switch between the balls, all you have to do is remove this pin right here, so we need to take our clip off the other side, take that out, and that's going to allow these to swivel. Then you can choose whatever hitch ball is going to work best for your application. For the 1 7/8 inch ball, the pin's going to go in that back hole.

For the 2-inch or 2 5/16 inch ball, the ball would go in that forward hole. Whenever you find whatever ball's going to work for your coupler, make sure it's facing up, secure it in place by reinstalling the pin and clip. Now the hitch balls are going to be made from steel. They're going to feature a dual process chrome plating, so they're going to be highly resistant towards rust and corrosion. The pins are stainless steel pins, so that's going to create nice, sturdy, rust-proof connections, and then the actual shank right here, the mount and the platform, that's going to be steel construction, high yield tubing, so it's going to offer superior strength, and it's going to have that black, powder-coated finish on it, which is going to do great at resisting rust and corrosion, adds a nice rugged look, and it's going to keep the mount looking nice for a really long time. Now, to get this secured in your hitch, it is going to require a hitch pin and clip, or a hitch pin and lock. Those items are sold separately. If you're in need of one, you can find them here at etrailer.com. The pin holes on the unit will accept a standard 5/8 inch diameter pin, and you're going to have two pin holes to choose from, so you can use whatever one works best for your application. The distance that we have from the center of the forward pin hole to the center of the hitch balls, that's going to measure 9 1/4 inches. The distance from the rear pin hole to the center of the hitch balls, that's going to measure 10 3/8 of an inch. Now, the towing weight is going to vary a little bit, depending on which ball you're using, so when you're using the 1 7/8 inch ball, you're going to have a gross towing weight of 3,500 pounds, with a maximum tongue weight of 350 pounds. When using the 2 inch ball, we're looking at 7,500 pounds and a tongue weight of 750 pounds. When using the 2 5/16 inch ball, we're looking a gross towing weight of 14,500 pounds and a maximum tongue weight of 1,450 pounds. This product is made right here in the USA, and it's covered with a limited lifetime warranty. That's going to do it for today's look at the B&W Tow & Stow 3-Ball Mount.
