Review of B and W Gooseneck BWGNRK1309

Today we're going to review part number BWGNRK1309. This is the B &W Turnoverball Underbed Gooseneck Trailer Hitch, with the Custom Installation Kit Installed. For this video we decided to install the custom brackets to see how this would look when this is installed under your truck bed. This is custom fit for the 2009 - 2012 Dodge Ram 1500 Series, all bed sizes. And it will also work on the 2013 Ram 1500, all bed sizes, except the trucks that use the 4 corner air suspension system. This heavy duty underbed hitch will let you tow your gooseneck trailer. When you remove the ball it will give you complete truck bed access when you're not towing.

You can actually turn the ball over and store it. Just drop it into place. That way you can have complete access to your truck bed for hauling other things when you're not towing. Now this gooseneck ball does lock into place with a 5/8 inch diameter spring loaded steel locking pin. It's on the end of the handle right here. When you lock it it goes all the way through this ball to secure it into place.

Basically, the way this one would operate . now this one is a little different than some of your gooseneck hitches. A lot of them will have a handle that you'll reach in the driver's wheel well and then turn it, pull it out, turn it to release that latch pin. This one actually has a square 3/8 inch hole on the very top here, and you'll use this L shape handle top tooperatethe latch pin. So basically what you will do .. right now it's unlocked.

So if you put it in this place, turn it clockwise, the pin would actually come out -- that 5/8 inch diameter pin will come out and lock into place. So just to show you, I unlocked it, dropped the ball into place, turned this to lock that, and it's all locked into place. And then to release it, just turn it counterclockwise and the ball would be released. Very simple to do. And you would access it in the truck bed ofyour vehicle. This single piece machine ball socket has a square base to it, helps provide rugged durability. It will fit into this square ball base to prevent the ball from turning in the hitch during hookup. So if you drop it into place you can see, when your hooking up, that ball will not be rotating. Also if you noticed on the base, the square base, the corners have been chamfered.

And also this opening they have actually rounded the openings a little bit, so when you drop this ball in, on each corner there is a slight opening which will help prevent from any dirt or grime to build up inside this opening to keep the ball from coming out or going in easily. So that will help remove that grime. Now this B &W underbed hitch is specifically designed to use B &W accessories that we sell separately. That will make it easy to customize this hitch to fit your needs. One of the popular accessories is by chance if you need to tow with this gooseneck hitch, but you need to tow a fifth wheel trailer, they do offer a separate accessory called the B &W Companion Fifth Wheel Hitch Adapter. What that basically does is that is a fifth wheel hitch that would fit into the bed of your truck. And the way it's secured to your truck is you remove the ball, and it has a post in the middle that would actually slide down in here. And you just lock that post into place and that would hold that fifth wheel hitch in your truck bed. So that would allow you to also tow a fifth wheel trailer. We do sell that companion fifth wheel hitch adapter separately. If you notice, they also have the spring loaded safety chain hook ups right here. You just pull up on it. When you're done, it'll pull back down. Hook your safety chains to there. This gooseneck hitch is a very simple installation. Comes with the included custom installation kits that we show you here. All the hardware to install it. There is no welding required. Now the truck bed does not have to be removed for installation. The only thing you would need to do to your truck bed is you would have to drill a 4 inch diameter hole into the bed, so you would have access to this ball hole. This hitch is a powder coated steel. It is sturdy and corrosion resistant. The part is made in the USA. Now it also has a gross towing weight capacity of 30,000 pounds, has a vertical load limit or pin weight capacity of 7,500 pounds. The gooseneck ball size is 2 and 5/16 diameter. It does come with a limited lifetime warranty. So again, just to show you how this installs . The pin is actually closed now, so what we're going to do is put the L shape handle in. Whoop . there we go . had it in the wrong way. Turn it counterclockwise. The pin opens up, drop your ball into place for towing your gooseneck. Turn this, remove the handle. It's locked into place. You're all ready to go. Now if you're done towing and you just want to store the ball away, put your handle back in, turn it -- releases that pin -- drop your hitch ball back down in there for storage, release that latch pin and it's all locked into place. Have complete access to your truckbed. Very nice set up. That should do it.
