Blue Ox Weight Distribution Hitch - SwayPro 15,000 lbs w/ Sway Control - BXW1500 Review

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're gonna take a quick look at this Blue Ox SwayPro Weight Distribution System with Sway Control. This is going to help level out your trailer and your tow vehicle so that all the trailers weight is being spread across all the axles of your tow vehicle and your trailer. So rather than all of that weight being pushed down on your hitch ball, which can often cause your tow vehicle to kinda sag in the rear end, this is going to level everything out. So it's gonna improve your control and comfort as you're towing your trailer. Some customers say that this does have such a profound effect, that it almost feels like they're not towing a trailer.

It gives them that much better handling. I can't guarantee you that that's gonna be your experience, but it should be an improvement over what you're currently experiencing if you don't have a weight distribution system. This also has the sway control built-in. So it's going to help minimize the sway of your trailer, keep everything in line better than currently. It's also going to allow you to reverse without having to disengage.

So other weight distribution systems, you would have to get out of your vehicle, disconnect the weight distribution system and anytime you wanted to back your trailer up. With this, because it uses the chains, it's going to allow you to stay connected and back right into place. So it is gonna be a little bit more convenient for you. There are several other really important features, but the main feature or consideration to ensure that this is gonna work for you is gonna be the weight capacity. So this does have a gross towing weight of 15,000 pounds.

That is the weight of the trailer plus the load included. So you wanna make sure that that works for your trailer. It's also going to have an optimal tongue weight range of 1,000 pounds to 1,500 pounds. That is the weight being pushed down on your hitch ball here. So again, you wanna make sure that that fits your trailer.

If you have a system that is too strong, if it's rated for a higher weight than your trailer is, it's gonna be very rigid and you're not gonna get the full benefit of it. If you have a system that's rated for, less than your trailer weighs, it's not going to be able to engage properly. So you wanna make sure that you're getting a system that works for you. We've got several different SwayPro models here with different weight ratings. So if your trailer is larger or smaller than that 15,000 pounds, I would recommend checking out some of our other options. But if that weight range works for you, this is gonna be a great option. This is going to slide right into your 2-inch by 2-inch trailer hitch receiver on your tow vehicle. You do wanna make sure that your trailer hitch is rated for use with weight distribution, not all of them are. And of course, anytime you're towing, you wanna make sure that you're taking into consideration your tow vehicles weight rating, as well as your hitch and your weight distribution system. You're only as strong as your weakest components. So you never wanna exceed any of those weight ratings. But this is gonna do a good job for you sliding right into that receiver tube. It's got a basic pin and clip here to keep it from wiggling out. We do have locking pins and clips available here at etrailer.com. So if you wanted to switch this out for a little bit more secure option, we've got those available for you. You can switch that up pretty easily. Again, I wanna make sure that this is gonna work for you. So a one consideration is gonna be the depth here. Some people have expressed a need for a deeper shank to fit their hitch. So this is going to be about nine inches from the center of our pinhole, to the center of our adjustment holes, and about four inches from the center of our pin hole up to this gusset here. So again, make sure that that's gonna work for your hitch. There are other shanks available. They are sold separately that you can switch out if you need to, but this shank is going to provide a rise and drop options for you. So you can see it's got these holes here where you can adjust the head placement. So when we have it in our drop orientation, like we have it here, from the top of our receiver tube down to about where our coupler is going to sit, it's a drop of about two inches. So if your trailer, when it's sitting level, the coupler sits about two inches lower than the top of your hitch receiver tube. This will work well for you. If we we're to flip the shank over and use it in the rise position, we're gonna have a rise of about eight inches from the top of our shank to about where our coupler is gonna sit. So if your trailer, when sitting in level is eight inches higher than the top of your receiver tube. That will work for you and anywhere in between, you've got a lot of different variations adjustments that you can make in there to make sure that this is gonna work for you to keep everything level. We're also going to have this 2-5/16 inch hitch ball pre-installed on the head unit here. So that's gonna be one last thing that you have to worry about torquing down. So it's nice that, that's not only included, but also already installed for you. The weight distribution system head does have a built-in tilt to it. So that's one of the main features in my mind that sets this apart from others. Most other weight distribution systems, you have to manually adjust the tilt of the head based on your tongue weight. This is going to have that built into the arms already. So some of the other systems use washers that you have to kinda stack up based on how much tilt you need. This is gonna be super, super simple, easy to use having that already built in. And that's a huge feature in my mind. You can see we also have the grease zerks built into the back of these arm connections. That's going to make it much easier for us to get that system lubricated and make sure that everything's gonna be operating smoothly for us, and just took up our grease gun, pump some grease in there. It's going to make it much easier for us to keep the system maintained. And these arms do attach our trunnion spring bars very easily with these pins and clips. So when we're ready to get set up, we can just slide these in, line up the holes there, and pass these pins through, get them attached there. There are going to be very secure for us. We're not gonna have to worry about them coming loose or anything like that. Built into the head unit, there are trunnions that are designed to help hold your spring bar securely in position. They're gonna place just enough tension on them to cause them to constantly force your trailer back in line. So that's gonna be a major component of our sway control, ensuring that our trailer is gonna stay where we wanted to. We also have the training spring bars that are going to allow us to switch out. These bars can be switched out. Other weight capacities are available. So if you get a different trailer in the future or something like that, you wanna keep the same unit. You can just switch out. These arms will fit right in place. So if you have a higher weight capacity or need a lower weight capacity, these can be changed out. So nice little option there. These will flex appropriately to make sure that you have a nice controlled even ride as you're going down the road. These are going to be the main suspension component for your weight distribution system. So make sure that, again, you're getting the right weight capacity for you there. And then down on the end here, we do have these unique rotating-latch lift brackets that are going to connect our spring bars to our trailer. We have the chains here. So this is going to ensure that the chains are nice and tight and secure. Help keep our spring bars from moving. Unlike other chain systems, you can see, this does have like a channel in here that the chain is gonna be caught in between. So it's going to provide less movement than most of your typical chain mounted weight distribution system. So really nice system here to get the benefits of the chains without the downsides of having the more movement. So the benefits of having chains, these are typically much less noisy. So your steel on steel brackets that some of your other weight distribution systems have tend to squeak as that steel rubbed up against each other. The chains are a lot more quiet for you, so you don't have to worry about that. So benefits of the chains without the downside. And they are gonna be pretty simple to get installed. You will have to jack up your tongue jack to take some of the strain off your system, get the tension removed. That's pretty common for most of your weight distribution systems having to jack it up first. But then once you have it jacked up, you'll be able to rotate this forward, get the link that you need, and then position there and it falls into place. And then we can use the included handle here to rotate that up. And once it's locked in position, it's nice and secure for you. So very simple to use. Again, some people don't like having to our jack up their tongue jack and then let it down once it's engaged. It's kind of a common feature of most weight distribution systems, but you definitely have to do that with this as well. Brackets here are going to mount right on to your trailer's frame. These are going to have a clamp on design. So you'll just tighten down the bolts here to get it nice and secure onto your trailer frame. This will work for frames up to 2-5/8 of an inch thick, whether they're three to six inch tall frames, it'll work really well for them. You will mount these about 29 inches back from your hitch ball. So keep that in mind. You might need to rearrange some things on your trailer frame. If you have other things mounted there already, but these are gonna be a great option, especially with that channel. Like I said, get all the benefits of the chains plus a few more. So this system does have a nice strong steel construction. So it is gonna be very sturdy and durable for you. It's got a powder coat finish to it. It'll help resist against rust and corrosion. So it should last you a nice long time. They do include a several different ad-ons or bonus things. So you've got a couple of links here for your safety chains to kinda help extend those out. You've got an adapter here for your hitch ball. So if you ever needed to switch out your hitch ball and reduce the size down to a one inch diameter shank and include that reducer sleeve there. And then they also included a couple of different sizes of bolts to get your brackets mounted on your trailer frame. So depending on how wide your frame is, you'll use different sizes there. So really everything that you're gonna need to get your trailer set up with weight distribution system, including the instructions on how to put it all together and get it all installed. So overall, I think it is gonna be a great option for you. It does come with a limited lifetime warranty. So if you we're to have any problems with it, you're more than welcome to reach out to us here at etrailer.com. We're always happy to work with our customers to make sure that you are getting good quality products and having a good experience. So if you do have any issues, please reach out to us. We're happy to work with you. But I don't think you're going to have any problems at all as long as, again, you get the right weight rating for your trailer. I think you'll be very happy with this. The control that it's gonna give you as you're going down the road. So that's gonna complete our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching..
