Review of Brophy Enclosed Trailer Parts SS03

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Brophy Steel Scissor Steps. These are going to be manufactured from steel for strength and durability. The weight capacity on these steps is going to be 300 pounds. They're going to feature a nice, diamond tread surface that's going to really help provide some good grip to prevent falls. The steel is going to have a nice powder coating, a black finish. It does a great job at resisting rust and corrosion and protecting the steel. That way these last a long time and they also look good for a long time.

The vertical height on the unit's going to measure between 24 and 30 inches, so if the area where you need some stairs is between those measurements then this set up is going to work great for your application. At the base the stairs are going to actually self-adjust, and really all throughout the scissor design, they're going to self-adjust to the terrain to provide that maximum amount of stability, and they're going to be able to fold easily for a nice compact storage. The unit's going to come fully assembled, ready to be installed right out of the box, very easy to install and to use. It does come with some detailed installation instructions that are very helpful. It's also going to include your mounting bracket, which is this piece right here. Your mounting bracket has nice V-clamps or V-holds on it that goes around this upper arm, and then it provides that nice, flat surface here at the back that's designed to mount an eighth of an inch below the door, below the lowest point of your door. That measurement is according to the instructions.

But again, this is going to be the included mounting bracket. It's also going to come with 4 lag screws. The bracket itself is going to measure 18 1/4 of an inch long and it's going to have 1-inch lips, so 1 inch tall by 1 inch deep or 1 inch wide. Now a separate mounting bracket is required if you're going to attach these stairs to a pickup tailgate. You can find that bracket here at etrailer.com using part number TSSB.

That is sold separately. The mount hold separation on the unit from outer hole to outer hole, center on center, is going to measure 15 3/4 of an inch, which means that in between which hole we have a hole separation, center on center, of 5 1/4 of an inch. You could also purchase an optional handrail. That's available here at etrailer.com. It's sold separately, part number AHR3. That's really going to help provide some additional stability and safety.

This is going to be the included hardware, so you're going to have your 4 lag screws right there so you can get that mounting bracket installed. The product's going to be made right here in the USA. You can see that it's a 3-step design. If we take a measurement of the actual step size, going across, so overall width, outer edge to outer edge, we're looking at about 18 inches. When it comes to just the width of the step, we're looking at about 17 1/4, and then the depth of just the step is going to be about 6 1/4. Really nice design, very strong, durable design. The steel scissor, that's going to be the scissor design right here. That's going to be 3/16 of an inch thick by 1 inch wide, so a nice durable design. Please keep in mind that this step is only to be used while the vehicle's in a stationary position. You do not want to attach the steps. You definitely want to use the included mounting bracket, so that the step can easily be removed prior to vehicle travel. One other measurement I want to give you real quick is just the distance between the steps, so from the top of one step to the top of the other, I'm just going to put a straight edge across there and I'm going to measure up to that. We're looking at about, it looks to measure about 7 1/2 inches from the top here to the top of this one. Now again, this is going to fold easily for compact storage. What you would want to do is you would want to remove the upper arm from the mounting bracket, and then you can simply push down on the steps. They're going to fold together, and then here at the back, it's going to have a little keeper that's going to keep the steps folded, so as you fold, lift out on that. It's going to click into place, and then they're going to stay nice and compact without expanding back out. Now when they're folded, the overall width is going to be about 18 1/2 inches. The overall height if you have this bracket bent all the way down, that's going to be about 8 1/4 inch tall and then front to back's going to be about 10 inches deep. That's going to do it for today's look at the Brophy Steel Scissor Steps.
