Review of Bulldog Winch Winches BDW15019

Today we are going to be taking a look at part number BDW15019. This is the Bulldog Trailer Utility Winch with mounting plate. It's going to have a wire rope as well as roller fairleads and it's going to have a capacity of 4400 pounds. Now with this winch you are going to be able to power your load in and out. It's going to include a free spooling clutch for fast wire rope payout. It's going to operate by this dial here on the side, so you have an engaged position which is going to allow you to control the in and out function using the remote. Then you have the free spool option which is going to allow you to extend the rope out for fast wire rope payout. It's also going to feature a high efficiency, low amp draw motor.

Then you're going to have the winch battery. That's going to be this box right here. It mounts directly on top of the motor for a compact design. Here at the front where our wire rope comes out you are going to have a four roller fairlead. That's going to greatly reduce the wear and strain on the wire rope.

That's going to eliminate rubbing as well as friction. It's going to come with a durable hand held remote switch. That's going to be on a twenty foot wire lead. It's going to plug into the port here on the side of the winch battery. Now it does come with all necessary hardware, so all that's included and some zip ties to secure your wires up and out of the way, making sure that they don't get damaged. When it comes to the brake, this is going to feature an automatic load holding end drum brake. A 250 amp sealed connector.

Now the rated line pull at zero pounds is going to be 19.1 feet per minute, operating at 28 amps with it at max capacity of 4400 pounds. That's going to be 4.6 feet per minute and 340 amps. Here are on the end of the cable, it's going to have the nice forged steel hook. It's also going to have the safety latch mechanism so it's going to prevent accidentally disconnecting or unhooking. It's going to come with the nice bright yellow hand saver strap. Now the motor on this unit it going to be 1.8 horsepower.

That's a 12 volt DC permanent magnet motor. When it comes to the gearing, that's a 3 stage planetary gear system with a gear ratio of 136 to 1. The rope diameter is going to measure 732 of an inch and we're going to have about 55 1/2 feet in total length. To switch between the in and out function you can use the nice wired remote right here. It's got the in and our buttons on there. Really nice design. It has some grips on the side so you can get a secure hold on it, fits right in the palms of your hand and gives you easy operation of the in and out functions of the winch. Now the red and black wires, these are going to be your battery leads. These are going to connect to your battery. It's got the terminals here on the end. That's going to give you 6 foot leads, so plenty of wiring to run and make the connections. Now every connection on this unit is color coded. That's one of the great features about this system. You are going to have the black and red battery leads and then the connection from the winch battery to the motor is going to have a yellow connector and a blue connector. Those are also color coded here on the terminals. That way you can get everything easily connected. The overall dimensions of the unit, it's going to give us an overall length from edge to edge of about 15 inches long. An overall width, and we're just talking about just the winch not with the mounting bracket and the roller fairlead attached, but just the winch is going to measure about a little over 4 1/2 inches wide and about 6 1/4 inches tall. Now if I flip the winch so you can see the bottom. This is going to expose the bolt pattern. I already have the winch attached to the bracket here, with the 4 outer holes right here. Now if we take a measurement of those. Measuring center on center between these two, that's going to give us a measurement of about 6 and 5/8 of an inch. Going this direction, center on center, that's going to give us a measurement of about 3 inches between those mount holes. Now the plate mounting bolt pattern, we're talking about these right here. Taking a measurement, center on center, going this direction. That's going to give us a measurement of about 3 and 1/8 of inch. Then going this direction, it's going to measure just over 4 inches. Now the overall weight of the unit is going to be about 26 1/2 pounds. What I want to do is I want to go ahead and connect it to our external power source. That way you can see and get a feel for how the winch is going to operate. I am simply just making our power connectors here to our terminals on the battery. I'll go ahead and turn our power source on. Then I can connect our remote to the winch battery. Really easy to connect, it just slides in to the port. Get it secure, now the winch battery is also going to have an on and off switch, so we need to turn that on. Now we are ready to operate our winch so if I extend the line out. You can see there it's got a pretty nice quick response time and then if I want to bring the cable back in I just hit the in button on the switch. It's going to roll it back in and roll it around the drum. That's going to do it for our review of part number BDW15019. This is the Bulldog Trailer Utility Winch, with a wire rope, roller fairlead, and a capacity of 4400 pounds. .
