Review of Carr Accessory Step CARR183022

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Carr Hitch Mounted Step for 2" Trailer Hitches. This is going to provide quick and easy access to your vehicle's truck bed, cargo area, or roof rack. When it's not being used, it flips up, giving the back of the vehicle a nice clean look. It also works as a hitch cover, which is going to display the USA graphic that appears in red, silver, and blue on the bottom of the step. Again, that's going to show when the step is folded up and not being used. Now, the step surfacing is going to offer sure footing. It's got a nice, non-slip surface for ultimate grip.

This is designed to slide into the receiver tube on your hitch, and that's really going to help keep out dirt and grime out of the receiver tube. To get it secured, it does require a hitch pin and clip, or a hitch pin and lock. Those items are sold separately. That is required to secure the unit inside the hitch. If you need one, you can find them here at etrailer.com. The holes on this unit will accept a standard 5/8" diameter pin. It's going to be constructed of a black, powder-coated aluminum construction.

It's very strong and durable. It's going to be rust-proof and corrosion resistant. The product's made right here in the USA. It is designed for a 2" x 2" trailer hitch receiver. If we take a look at the step dimensions, it's going to give us an overall measurement going side-to-side of about 5", and front-to-back, we're looking at about 2-11/16" from this point back here to the very front. It's going to have a weight capacity of 650 pounds, and it's going to be covered with a limited lifetime warranty. I want to take some other measurements real quick.

We're going to measure from each pinhole location to the back right here, so to this back piece. Now it does offer two pinhole locations so when you're securing this in your hitch, you can choose whichever one works best for your application. From the back of that plate to the center of the pinhole, to that first one, we're looking at about 2-7/16". To the center of that rear one, we're looking at about 3-1/8 to 3-3/16" right in that area. It's a very easy installation process. You can see that nice graphic right there that's going to be displayed.

That's going to be the same dimensions as the step surface, so about 5" x 2-1/2 to 2-9/16". All you've got to do is slide it into the receiver tube of your hitch, push it in until you get your pinholes to line up, and then secure it with a hitch pin and clip or a hitch lock.
