Review of Carr Accessory Step CARR183032

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Carr Hitch Mounted Step for two inch trailer hitches. inaudible 00:00:06 is going to provide quick and easy access to your vehicle's truck bed, cargo area, roof rack, or you can even put it in the front mounted hitch and work under the hood. Really nice design. The step is going to flip up when it's not used, giving your vehicle a nice clean look. It's also going to work as a hitch cover, which is going to help keep dirt and grime out of the receiver tube of your hitch. When it is folded up, you can see the full color American flag located on the bottom of the step, really nice coloring.

That's going to have a nice protective finish over it, so it doesn't fade and that way it's protected from scratches and any type of abrasions. Here on the surface of the step, it's going to offer great grip. It's got a nice non-slip surface which is going to ensure that you get the best traction available when using the step. The shank back here and the hedge plugs are going to slide into the receiver tip of your hitch. It's a one-piece construction so there's no assembly required. These slide into the receiver tube of your hitch.

Line up whatever pin hole works best for your application and secure with the hitch pin and clip, or hitch lock. Those items are sold separately so if you're in need of one, you can find them here at etrailer.com. This will accept a standard 5/8 inch diameter pin. Again, it's going to offer two pin hole locations to choose from, so you can just choose whatever one works best for your particular vehicle. The units going to be made from aluminum construction. It's very strong and durable and it's going to have a really nice black, powder coated finish on it, so it's going to protect it from rusting corrosion.

Right here is going to be your spring plate. This is going to apply tension to the step when it's folded up. That way you don't have to worry about it dropping or moving during travel. The product is made right here in the U.S.A. It's designed for a 2 inch by 2 inch trailer hitch receiver.

A few measurements to go over with you real quick. We're going to take a look at the step platform dimensions. It's going to give us an overall width measurement from edge to edge of about 5 inches with an overall depth measurement of pretty close to 2 1/2 inches. When it's folded up, it's still going to keep that 5 inch wide measurement, but the overall height measuring from top to bottom is going to be pretty close to 5 1/2 inches. The pin holes on the unit, these are going to be separated by 3 quarters of an inch. Taking a measurement from the back of that plate to the center of each pinhole to that first one, we're looking at about 2 3/8 of an inch and into that rear run we're looking at about 3 1/8 of an inch. The step's going to feature a weight capacity of 650 pounds and it's going to be covered with a limited lifetime warranty. Now it is a very simple installation. All that you have to do is slide it into the receiver tube of your hitch, line up your pinholes. Again, just choose whichever one works best for your application, and then secure with a hitch pin or hitch lock. What I'm using for our demonstration today can be found at etrailer.com using part number PZ3. That's going to be your standard 5/8 inch diameter pin and it's going to come with a clip. When it's down, you can use it as a step to gain access to whatever you need to on your vehicle. When it's not used, just fold it up. It's going to give your hitch a nice clean look and it's also going to expose the full color American flag.
