Curt Ball Mounts - Adjustable Ball Mount - CU4759FR Review

Today we're going to take a look at the CURT SecureLatch pintle hook and two inch ball with the adjustable mount for two and a half inch hitches. Now, this pintle hook and hitch ball combo with the mount will let you hook up heavy duty trailers to your tow vehicle. The mount portion right here will slide into your vehicle's two and a half inch hitch receiver opening, and right up front here provides the attachment point for a lunette ring coupler, and the hitch ball will connect to standard ball couplers. If you notice on the mount, it has the slots right here, so it allows the hook and hitch ball combo to slide up or down to whatever position you need for easy height adjustment, and it's a one tool height adjustment. All you'd have to do is loosen the nuts and it'll slide up or down, put it into position you need. There's no disassembly required. This also features the auto locking system, which will secure your lunette ring without manual coupling.

Now, I do want to demonstrate how that works. I happened to pull a lunette ring and it is designed to fit lunette ring couplers with an inner diameter of two and a half inches or three inches. This one I pulled happened to have a three inch inner diameter. Basically what you'll do is it has a tethered safety pin and clip here. You just remove that and let it go and it'll hang down there.

And then what you'll do is you'll go ahead and back your vehicle up until this lunette ring bumps up against this rounded backing plate. What's nice is this built-in rounded backing plate helps guide the ring onto the hitch. So when you back up and it hits that, you know you're lined up and then you just lower the ring down onto the ball. When you get down far enough, this auto locking latch will secure the ring in place. So, once that latches, you see it won't allow it to come up.

And then once you install your safety pin back in and clip it, then it's locked into place, you're ready to go.To remove it, all you have to do is again remove the pin and clip and then we'll take this latch and push it all the way to where it hits the ball. And then when you raise up the lunette ring, it'll release easily and it flips the lever back into the install position, so you're all ready to go. Now, if you'll notice on here, it has this cupped hook area right down here, so it's designed to hold lunette ring tightly, helps reduce chucking in any noise, creates a nice, smoother, quieter ride than standard pintle hitches. Go ahead and put the safety pin and clip back in. Also, if you notice right on each side here, they do have integrated hooks to help keep the safety chains from dragging.

Now, these aren't made . You don't want to attach your safety chains to these. You do want to use these just to hold them up out of the way so they don't drag on the ground. This is a cast iron construction. It's austempered for superior strength. If you notice, these parts all have a nice textured dark gray teridium finish, helps resist corrosion, provides a premium look. The pintle ball is constructed of high strength drop forged steel, and if you notice the ball and all the hardware is a corrosion resistant gold zinc finish. Now, when you do install this into your hitch receiver, it will require a hitch pin and clip or a hitch lock. That is not included. We those separately. Requires a five eighths inch diameter pin. If you already have one, you can use it as long as it's a five eighths inch diameter. Again, the application. This fits into a two and a half inch by two and a half inch trailer hitch receiver. Gross trailer weight capacity is 20,000 pounds. The ball size is a two inch diameter. Now, the ball capacity, which is stamped on the top, is 10,000 pounds.Last thing I want to do is just give you a few dimensions. The pintle hook itself, which is this portion right here, the length on it is about seven and three eighths inches. Put a ruler on it. About seven and three eighths inches from here to here. The heights on it from the very bottom of this nut to very top right up there, it's going to be right at about eight inches tall. The mounting plate dimension, the height on it, it's going to be right at about 10 and five eighths inches tall. And then the width on it, let's see if I can swing this around. The width on that mounting plate is right about five and one eight inches wide. And the overall length of the shank from the back to the front plate right here, that is going to be right at about 11 and five eighths inches. But that should do it for the review on the Curt SecureLatch pintle hook and two inch ball with the adjustable mount for two and a half inch hitches.
