Review of Curt Balls A-80

Today we're going to be taking a look at part number A dash eight zero. This is the Curt one and seven eighth inch hitch ball. It's made from a stainless steel construction. You can see here that it's going to include your nut and lock washer. It's got the wrench flats here on the side. That way you can get a wrench on there and get everything tightened down and installed according to the instructions, or the manufacturer's specifications. The shank diameter on this unit, is going to measure three quarters of an inch. Take a measurement of the shank length, from the bottom of the platform to the end of the threaded portion, it's going to be about two and one eighth of an inch. This unit is designed to fit draw bar thicknesses from three eighths of an inch, to seven eighths of an inch thick.

It's going to have a capacity of two thousand pounds. A few other measurements, real quick, that we'll go over, starting with the overall length. It's going to be about four and three quarters of an inch. And then measuring from the bottom of the platform to the top of the hitch ball, that looks like it's going to give us a measurement of about two and five eighths of an inch. Now when installing this, you're going to place this through the ball hole. Then you'd place on your lock washer, which is going to go on the under side of the draw bar, or that platform area. Then you'd place on your nut.

When tightening this down, you need to make sure you get it tightened to one hundred and sixty foot-pounds of torque. Failure to do so could result in hitch ball failure. That weight capacity, or that hundred and sixty foot-pound torque rating can be found in the specifications listed by the manufacturer that come with this product. That's going to do it for today's review of part number A dash eight zero. This is the Curt one and seven eighth inch hitch ball.
