Review of Curt Fifth Wheel C16180

Today we're going to take a look at the Curt A25 Dual Jaw Fifth Wheel Trailer Hitch with a 25,000 pound weight capacity. Now this fifth wheel hitch will mount in your truck bed so that you can tow your fifth wheel trailer. This uses high strength, inter-locking and a two jaw system right here, provides a 360 degree jaw to kingpin contact. The jaws will fully wrap around the kingpin to fully minimize any noise. Gives you less rattle, more security than any of the slide bar models. The head on this is a fully articulating head instead of just front to back and side to side like most fifth wheels.

This will actually fully articulate, gives you control couplings and a nice, stable, quiet ride. It will self-align for easy hookup. Also, suppresses any rood shock and reduces the bothersome towing noise. Now, it does have two built in grease zirc fittings. One on each jaw right here in the front, you can see. That gives you easy lubrication of the jaws.

You can just attach your grease gun to that and pump grease into there. Now, this will insure secure towing. It uses a three point color coded lock indicator system. What I'm going to do is swing this around to show you that. It's one if its main features on this hitch. If we swing it around, once we get it all the way around, we should be able to see.

Here's the color coded system. This will give you . What it basically does right now you can see it showing a green circle. What that's telling you is the jaws are fully locked closed, you're ready to tow. If you go to open this, let me just go ahead and pull the pin and clip and then I'm going to pull the handle, and we're opened the dual jaws.

You can see it switched to a yellow triangle. That means the jaws are open, you're ready to couple. It will also show a red octagon, which will mean the jaws are locked open, it's uncoupled. So you do not want to tow. It will self-reset. What's nice about this color coded system, these lock indicators are visible from the cab. The handles, as I showed you, it's just a simple single throw handle operation, helps open the dual jaws, has a pin and clip right here that you can drop in there to keep the handle in the closed position. It will self-reset to the ready to couple position after you couple your trailer. The hole is large enough that when you do close it, you could put a padlock through there if you want. We do sell those separately for added security. Also, you notice this big handle here, if you pull the clip off on this side, you can pull this one pin out, makes head removal really easy. It allows one person to basically take this apart and take it off the tow vehicle. I am going to swing this around. Now it does come with everything shown here on the table. Comes with a nice set of detailed instructions on how to install and how it operates. Comes with the four pins and clips. When these do drop into the rails on your tow vehicle, you can put these pins and clips in there to hold it into place. It comes with this plastic lube place. The lube plate is nice because you put that on your kingpin and it'll help that kingpin glide smoothly into the hitch during hook up and it'll prevent any messy grease buildup. Also on the side, we bolted these legs to the center cross-member. There is a range. There's about four rows of holes here. It will give you a four inch hitch height adjustment, any where from 13 inches to 17 inches. In hitch height is always measured from the truck bed to the top of the hitch head. The reason it gives you a range is because all vehicles are different. You do want to keep your fifth wheel as level as possible when it's being towed with your tow vehicle. It is a very simple installation. It installs on the base rails. Now the base rales and the installation kit . We do sell that separately on our website. What you might want to do is go to the website, use our fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle. It will show you what base rails and installation kit are available. This is compatible. It will work with B&W, Curt, Demko, Draw Tite, Hidden Hitch, Husky, Reese, and Valley Above that base rails. This hitch is a sturdy steel construction. It has a nice durable carbide powder coat finish to it. A few specks on this. Again, the gross towing weight capacity is 25,000 pounds. Vertical load limit or pin weight capacity, 6,250 pounds. I'd mentioned the range of the hitch height adjustment is 13 inches to 17 inches. Basically, I pull the handle back, you can see the jaws are open. It's showing yellow back here so it's ready to couple. I want to give you an idea here's what a kingpin would look like on your fifth wheel. Basically when your kingpin slides in between the jaws, you can see once it gets far enough, the jaws completely close around it. The handle goes and locks into position here. All you have to do is take your pin, drop it through the holes, clip it right into position, and the handle won't move, and you're all locked in and ready to go. Simple as that.
