Curt Pintle Hitch - Pintle Hook - Standard - CU87FR Review

Today we're going to take a look at the Curt SecureLatch Pintle Hook with a 24,000 pound weight capacity. Now this pintle hook will let you hook up the heavy duty trailer to your tow vehicle. It provides the attachment point right here for your lunette ring coupler. Now this SecureLatch pintle hook is designed to mount to the SecureLatch adjustable slotted pintle mounts that we sell separately. Basically the bolts will go right through here and these will go into the slots on the adjustable mount and allows this to slide up and down to get you the correct height you need for your application. This also features the auto locking system, which secures the lunette ring without manual coupling.

I do want to demonstrate that and for a demonstration I did happen to pull a lunette ring. Now this foot will fit lunette ring couplers with an inner diameter of either 2-1/2" or 3".This one I pulled happened to have an inner diameter of 3". Basically what you'll want to do is first remove this tethered safety pin and clip, and it's tethered so you can let it go and it'll hang there so you won't lose it. And then what you'll do is back up the vehicle and it'll back it up until the lunette ring bumps up against this rounded backing plate. What's nice is this built in rounded backing plate will help guide the ring onto the hitch.

Basically once that taps, you're lined up and you just lower the ring down onto the hook. And once you get down far enough, this auto locking latch will pop off and secure the ring into place so it doesn't allow it to come back off. And then for extra safety, you just slide this pin and clip back through and that'll lock it so it doesn't remove and it'll keep it in there. Now what is nice to remove this, you just take the safety pin and clip out again, and then you just push this lever all the way down on top, over the ring. And then when you raise the lunette ring, it'll basically, you can remove it and then it flips this back into the installed position. Now you're ready to install again.

I'm going to just run the safety pin and clip back through there. If you notice right down here, it has a nice cupped hook designed to it and that holds the lunette ring tightly reduces any chucking and noise. Creates a nice, smoother, quieter ride than your standard pintle hitches. If you notice on each side they have these integrated hooks to help keep the safety chains from dragging. Now they're not designed, you don't attach your safety chains to this, you just run them over here and it holds them up from dragging on the ground. This is a cast iron construction.

It is austempered for superior strength, has a nice textured dark gray teridium finish, resists corrosion, provides premium look. And if you notice the hardware all has a nice corrosion resistant golden zinc finish to it. Gross trailer weight capacity on this is 24,000 pounds. The vertical load capacity is 4,800 pounds. And the last thing I want to do is just give you some dimensions. The height from the very bottom to the top tallest point is going to be right about 7-1/2" tall. And the length from the very back to the very front is going to be right at about 6-1/4" long. But that should do it for the review on the Curt SecureLatch Pintle Hook with the 24,000 pound weight capacity.
