Curt Trailer Hitch Ball Mount - Fixed Ball Mount - C45112 Review

Hello everybody, this is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a look at this Curt 14-inch Long Ball Mount for 2-inch Hitches, has a 5,000-pound gross towing weight capacity. Now this ball mount will let you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. The shank portion right here is what'll slide into your vehicle's 2-inch hitch receiver and the ball platform right here provides the mounting point for your hitch ball. Now the hitch ball is not included, we do sell that separately. The ball hole that the hitch ball inserts into, the diameter on that hole is 1-inch.

So you do want to make sure when you purchase a hitch ball that has a 1-inch shank diameter. Now this ball mount is a sturdy steel construction, has a full length quarter-inch thick gusset right here installed for added support, and it uses a corrosion resistant high gloss black powder coat finish. Now it can be used in both the drop and the rise positions, they are available to ensure leveled towing. Right now we have it in the drop position. So if I measure the maximum drop on this, it's going to be measured from the top of this shank to the top of the ball platform. If we put a ruler on that, it's going to be right at nine and a quarter inches.

Now when you use it in this position, the gross towing weight capacity is 5,000 pounds, tongue weight capacity, 500 pounds. Now, if you flip it over and you need to use it in the rise position, which would be this way. Again, it's measured from the top of the shank, top of the ball platform. So if we put the ruler on that, it's going to be right at eight inches maximum rise. And if it's used in the rise position, the gross towing weight capacity is 3,500 pounds, tongue weight is 350 pounds. Now, when you do install this into your hitch receiver, it will require a hitch pin and clip or hitch lock to secure it to your hitch receiver.

Those items we do sell separately. The hitch pin hole diameter right here is five-eighths of an inch. So you do want to make sure the pin and clip you use has a five-eighths inch diameter pin. A few specs, this is designed to fit a 2-inch by 2-inch trailer hitch receiver. And the length we're going to measure, and that's measured from the center of this hitch pin hole to the center of the hitch ball hole, so if we get our tape measure and if we go from the center to the center of the ball hole is right at 14 inches for the total length of this.

But that should do it for the review on this Curt 14-inch Long Ball Mount for 2-inch Hitches, and a 5,000-pound gross towing weight capacity..
