Demco Brake Actuator - DM5836 Review

Today we're going to take a look at the reverse lockout solenoid kit for the Demco DA66B hydraulic brake actuators. Now this solenoid here we'll install to the back of the master cylinder in your Demco brake actuator. You can see there's two wires on it. One will connect to a ground, one connects to the reverse light circuit. So basically, when your tow vehicles put into reverse, it will activate the solenoid to keep your brakes from being applied. So the purpose of this reverse lockout solenoid is to stop the flow of brake fluid pressure to your brakes when you're backing the vehicle and the trailer.

Now drum brakes will, generally, do not require a solenoid, as the drum brakes are generally not very efficient in reverse, and they're available also in a free backing design. that'll keep them from being applied when it's in reverse. Now, disc brakes will generate braking power in forward and reverse, usually requiring a manual lockout, or this electric activated solenoid. Now this solenoid is of non-bypass design, which means when the solenoid's energized, it will prevent the brake fluid from flowing anywhere. So this will allow you to install this solenoid without drilling into your master cylinder, and it's a lot easier to install than the bypass models. The bypass design when it's energized will only allow brake fluid to flow back to the master cylinder, so it does require drilling into your master cylinder if a return valve is not installed in it.

This one here is designed to fit the Demco model DA66B hydraulic trailer brake actuators. This part will include both the inline solenoid valve and this nice heavy metal solenoid cover. The cover is a one-eighth inch thick, metal cover, that'll bolt to the rear of the actuator, and it prevents any damage to this installed solenoid. This solenoid has the threads here, so this is where it'll screw into the back of the actuator, and if you don't have a cover on it, it will be exposed to any type of damage. So this will actually bolt, you can see the holes here on the top, this will bolt to the brake actuator, and actually cover and protect the solenoid. That should do it for the review on the reverse lockout solenoid kit for the Demco DA66B hydraulic brake actuators..
