Demco Brake Actuator - Demco Hydraulic Disc Brake Actuator - DM8204311 Review

Hi everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. And today, we're gonna take a look at this Demco hydraulic disc brake actuator. Now, this also goes by the model number of DA20. This hydraulic actuator will activate your trailer brakes when the tow vehicle slows or stops. This coupler has a four inch drop, which will help you match your tow vehicle's height.

And at the rear, there is an electric reverse lockout solenoid, which will let you back up without actuating your trailer brakes. It is installed into the master cylinder, and this electric solenoid will activate automatically when you shift into reverse. If you notice, it has two yellow wires here. One is gonna be connected to the ground and the other goes into the reverse light circuit. And because they're both yellow, it doesn't matter which one's which.

To use the lockout feature, you must have a five-pole flat, six-way round, or seven-pole trailer connector. And the solenoid is installed into a heavy-duty aluminum master cylinder, which is very durable, and rustproof, and efficient. The master cylinder is built for high pressure application, and it allows 50% greater displacement than your standard master cylinder. Now, the coupler uses an eZ-Latch coupler mechanism for simple, secure hookup and disconnect. This will let you hook up when the latch is in the closed position as it is now.

And this is designed to fit onto a 2 5/16 inch hitch ball. And you would just simply lower the coupler over the hitch ball and the latch will snap into place. And then you just lift up the latch and the coupler will release the ball. For our purposes, I can't lower the coupler onto the ball, so I'm just gonna push the ball into the coupler. And as you can see, it automatically latches and our ball is in place.

And then it's easy to remove it. You just lift up our eZ-Latch and easily remove that ball. Now, on the inside, there is a acetyl copolymer lining that provides smooth operation as this actuator telescopes in and out. And the breakaway is included with this snap hook on the safety cable to ensure a secure connection to your breakaway lever. This is made in the USA of a durable steel construction with a sturdy reinforced outer casing. It is zinc plated for corrosion resistance with a 200-hour salt spray rating. The gross towing weight is 20,000 pounds with a maximum tongue weight of 2,000 pounds. This is a bolt-on installation with a five-hole case, which is universal. It has five mounting holes on each side of the actuator. It does require half inch by 4 1/2 inch grade five bolts for installation. They are not included, so you would have to source those locally. And this is designed to fit on a straight three inch wide trailer tongue. The overall length from end to end is about 33 1/2 inches long. Well, that's gonna conclude our look today. I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me..
