Hello everybody, this is Jeff at Today, we're gonna take a look at this Demco EZ-Latch Hydraulic Drum Brake Actuator, fits a two inch diameter ball, has an 8,000 pound gross towing weight capacity. Now, this hydraulic actuator will activate your trailer's brakes when your tow vehicle slows or stops. Basically, what happens is when you apply the brakes in your tow vehicle, deceleration occurs, and the momentum will push your trailer towards the rear of your vehicle. So with the surge brake system, the actuator right here is triggered as your trailer moves forward once your tow vehicle starts to slow down. So when this happens, the actuator will contract and applies force to the master cylinder back here, and this in turn supplies the necessary hydraulic pressure to engage your trailer's brakes.

Now, this actuator uses an acetal copolymer lining, provides smooth operation as the actuator telescopes in and out. And this one here uses the EZ-Latch coupler mechanism for a nice, simple, secure hookup and disconnect. Basically, this one will let you hook up when the latch is in the closed position like it is now, all you have to do is drop this coupler over the hitch ball and the latch will snap into place. And as I mentioned, this one is designed to fit a two inch diameter ball. So just to show you what I'm talking about, I pulled a two inch diameter ball.

So if we can lift this up, see if I can get this lifted up, and then you can put it over the ball, and you can see when you push down on it and when you push down far enough, you notice that latch opened up and then latched and locks it into place. So you don't have to mess with keep opening or closing this, in the closed position, it'll automatically latch on. And then to detach it, just grab the trigger, pull it up, and just like that the ball gets removed from your connection. So it's a very nice setup, you don't have to keep unlocking and locking it, you can just hook it up when it's closed. This is a heavy-duty steel construction, has a nice, sturdy reinforced outer casing, does have a nice zinc plating over the whole part to offer corrosion resistance, has a 200 hour salt spray rating.

Now, on the very back, right back here, you can see the master cylinder, it is a composite master cylinder, it's very durable and efficient. It is a glass reinforced nylon construction, so it will resist rust and corrosion. Has a very large reservoir, provides increased capacity for your brake fluid, and if you noticed right up at the top here, it uses the automotive-style diaphragm cap, which creates a completely enclosed system, helps prevent contamination of the brake fluid. Now, if you noticed, this does come with a breakaway cable and the hook on the end with the keeper on it. This is required by law, it prevents a trailer runaway situation.

Basically, when you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle, you'll hook this latch to the tow vehicle, and then in case the trailer gets disconnected, it'll pull this cable, which will activate the lever to activate the master cylinder to apply the brakes on a runaway trailer. Now, this is a bolt-on installation. Let me go ahead and just hook this back up. If you noticed right down here, there's two holes up here, one down here, mounts to a straight three inch wide trailer tongue. Now, when you do install this, it will require a 1/2 inch by 4 1/2 inch long Grade-5 bolts. Now, those are not included. To mount it, you would need those bolts, we do sell those separately. This part is made in the USA. Again, the application is for trailers with hydraulic drum brakes, gross towing weight capacity again is 8,000 pounds, tongue weight capacity, 800 pounds, and this actuator goes by the model number of DA91. Now, one last note I do wanna mention on this, because this actuator does not include a reverse lockout on the rear here, it is recommended that you equip your trailer with either a reverse lockout solenoid that'll screw into the back here or use free backing brakes on your trailer, so that you can drive in reverse without this actuator triggering your trailer's brakes.
