Review of Demco RV Fifth Wheel DM6076P-UL-16K

Today we are going to review part number DM6076P-UL-16K. This is the Demco Hijacker Premier series: 16,000 pound, double pivot, ultra slide, fifth wheel hitch. This fifth wheel hitch is designed to mount in your truck bed so that you can tow your fifth wheel trailer. It has the built in slider right here, and this will provide your clearance required for your short bed truck to turn safely at slow speeds. It does use a double pivot head. The double pivot means it goes front to back and side to side, and makes coupling and uncoupling very easy. To show you the side to side movement is hard to do because it does require weight to be on the hitch head, and then you can see it would move side to side. It does have the polyurethane bumpers underneath the hitch head here.

This will help eliminate that side to side movement when it's uncoupled, and it will cushion the pivot action when it is coupled. It does use a wrap around jaw, right up here on the hitch head. It will totally wrap around the king pin. In front of that it has a locking bar for a smoother, safer, more secure ride. When you mount the cross member to the side rails here, it gives you a choice of four vertical height adjustments. That's to fit your application to help you level your truck and trailer to provide a safe and smooth towing experience. It gives you anywhere from a 16 inch hitch height adjustment at the lowest, all the way up to a 19 inch.

Your hitch height is measured from your truck bed to the top of the hitch head. This hitch is a sturdy steel construction. It has a nice black corrosion resistant powder coat finish. It does require bases rails for these to drop into. The base rails and the installation kit we do sell separately. They are listed on our website.

What we would recommend to do is go to our website, use our fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle and it will show you the base rails and installation kit that will work for your application. I would recommend to make the installation easier if it does list a custom or a semi custom bracket kit. We do recommend to do that. It is also compatible with industry standard above bed rails by B&W, CURT, Draw-Tite, Hidden Hitch, Husky, Reese and Valley. This part is made in the USA. A few specs on it: The gross towing weight capacity is 16,000 pounds; the vertical load limit, or pin weight capacity is 4,000 pounds; the hitch height adjustment will go from 16 inches up to 19 inches; and the travel of the slider is eight inches front to back. I'm going to show you how that operates here.

Basically what you do right now, it is locked into the towing position, so if you want to go into the maneuvering position you just pull off the lynch pin right here. Your handle is a spring loaded handle, just pull out, rotate it until the pin goes into the other hole, and that releases it and will allow your whole unit to slide. You'll see once you get the full 8 inches the pin will lock into place and it's in the maneuvering position. When you're done maneuvering and you want to uncouple, just go out and pull the spring loaded handle, rotate it back to the other hole. Then what will happen is you go forward, and you'll see that it will lock into the towing position. Then just put your lynch pin back through there to lock that into place. If you see these pins and clips, they do come with this. They're made to, once you drop these tabs into your rails, it comes with the pins and clips to lock them into place. Now I'm going to show you how the hitch head operates. To hook up your trailer you just pull this pin and clip out. That releases your handle. You can pull your handle all the way out. When you do that it will lock into the opener and ready to couple position. With it like that, for demonstration purposes I've got an example of a two inch diameter king pin. This is what would be on your pin box. So, when your pin box slides into the hitch head . you can see once it gets all the way in there that wrap around jaw will go completely around the king pin and the locking bar in front of it. Then all you have to do is go ahead is put your pin and clip back in the handle. Put it through the hole. Put the clip in, that locks the handle from moving. And you're all ready to go. That should do it for the review on part number DM6076P-UL-16K. The Demco Hijacker Premier Series. 16,000 pound, double pivot, ultra slide, fifth wheel hitch. .
