Demco Tow Bar Braking Systems - Brake Systems - SM99251 Review

Jeff: Hello, everybody. This is Jeff at etrailer.com. Today we're going to take a look at this Demco Stay-IN-Play DUO proportional supplemental braking system. Now a supplemental braking system is a must when you're towing a car or a truck behind your RV. Because without it, the weight of that towed car or vehicle can create a safety hazard, constrain your RV's brakes, or even affect your RV's warranty. So most states will require a supplemental braking system. This kit here includes everything laid out here on the table.

It'll use this DUO operating unit here, the DUO air cylinder, the G-Force brake controller with the inertia sensors, the breakaway switch and cable. Over here, we have a coach notification kit that'll come with the LED lights, the airlines, the vacuum hoses, all the hardware you need for installation. And they even have a nice operator's manual that's included that gives you all the instructions on how to install everything and how it operates. Now, this supplemental braking system applies your towed vehicle's brakes in proportion to the braking action of the RV. The towed car's brakes are activated at the same time and with the same intensity as those in your motor home. The inertia sensor right here, this will detect the deceleration and signals the system to activate the brake pedal with a proportional amount of pressure. The sensitivity control on the sensor will let you regulate how aggressively the towed car's brakes activate.

And there'll be no false breaking. The coach brake light must be on for the system to activate your towed car's brakes. To install this. It's a one-time setup, so there's no need to remove or to activate each time you tow. The operating unit and this actuating cylinder will stay hidden.

So everything is out of your way when you're driving. The inertia sensor right here will mount in the cab of the vehicle. And the system will automatically function when the towed vehicle's hitched to the RV. I mentioned this notification kit has this LED bar with these three LEDs on it. These will illuminate when the towed vehicle's brakes are applied. You connect it to the towed car's brake light switch to ensure proper reading.

And they do recommend usually to mount this. It's got a piece of double face tape here to mount this either on the dash or behind the rear view mirror, so that it's visible from the backup camera on your RV.Now the vacuum pump right here, that'll attach to your brake pedal, this restores the towed car's vacuum after each breaking event. So less force is needed to move the brake pedal in the car, resulting in a more natural braking and less risk of damage. And it is compatible with vehicles that have the continuous power assist brakes. These kit is made in the USA. Last thing I want to do is just give you some dimensions on this operating unit. This is what will be installed underneath the hood of your car and the engine compartment. The width on this unit, going to be right at eight inches wide, right inches long, five inches wide and about two and a quarter inches tall. But that should do it for the review on the Demco Stay-IN-Play DUO proportional supplemental braking system.
