Derale Transmission Coolers - Plate-Fin Cooler - D33502 Review

Michael: Hi there. I'm Michael with Today, we're going to take a quick look at the Derale Series 8000 Class III Transmission Cooler. This is one of the more popular cooling styles available. It's got the radiator style plate and fin heat exchanger, which provides that increased surface area so that the fluids can spread out along the vented chambers, so that as that cool air blows into your vehicle, you're going to have more surface area so that fluid will cool down faster, which is, of course, going to help prolong the life of your transmission. As we get cooler fluids flowing through, it's going to help that.

It's also going to improve your overall performance of your vehicle and, of course, prevent the heat related failures that are associated with overheating because we're going to have much cooler fluids flowing through to help keep that system cooled. In addition, to the increased surface area, this cooler also features a turbulator technology, which is going to agitate the fluids continuously so that, in addition to getting that heat transfer, it's also going to help prevent any undesirable drop in pressure, so we're not going to have to worry about that. This is constructed of a furnace brazed aluminum, and it's got the three quarter inch wide turbulator plates for that more efficient cooling and improved pressure. This is recommended for your medium sized cars or compact trucks and SUV's that are used for your light duty towing. It does have a gross vehicle weight rating of 17,500 pounds. It is specifically designed for your vehicles with the late model electronic overdrive transmissions. You can see, we are going to have two of these 11/32 inch hose barbs, so should be very easy to get connected and just put your hose over those and the fluids will flow through there and out the other side.

Our overall dimensions. Get a ruler here for you. We're looking at right about 11 inches wide. If we measure to the top of our piece here without the barbs, it's right about seven and a quarter of an inch. Might be kind of difficult to see that with the angle of the camera, but it is right about seven and a quarter of an inch tall without the barbs.

With the barbs, looking at closer to seven and three quarters of an inch. And it is only about just shy of an inch, about seven-eighths of an inch deep, so it's not going to take up a whole lot of room. The distance between our inlets up top here, going from center to center, we're right about 10 and a quarter. Get that lined up center to center, about 10 and a quarter inches. And then our mounting holes here across the top. We go from the center of the farthest hole to the center of the farthest hole.

We're looking at right about six and three quarters of an inch wide. I'll just measure on the back side here for the height. Again, center to center, we're looking at about six. Let me go down to this bottom one. Easier for you to see. Right about six and one-eighth of an inch from center to center of those. It should be pretty easy to get this mounted in place. It doesn't come with any hardware or anything, but you can just use some zip ties, depending on your application. Make sure that this is going to be mounted in place where you're going to get a nice flow of cool air flowing in so that you can cool down that fluid. This does come with a one year warranty from Derale, so it's nice to know they stand behind their product. If you have any problems, you can give them a call and they'll help you out. That's going to complete our look at the Derale Series 8000 Class III Transmission Cooler. Again, I'm Michael with Thanks for watching.
