Dexter Axle Trailer Axles - Leaf Spring Suspension - 8327860 Review

Ellen: Hey everyone, I'm Ellen here at etrailer.com. Today we're taking a look at the Dexter Trailer Axle Beam with a 4" Drop and E-Z Lube Spindles. Now, our trailer axle is going to be the basis of our suspension system. So this is going to either replace an existing axle that was broken, damaged or maybe just rusted out and worn out or be the basis of our new fabrication for our application. Our axle beam has the welded on spring seats and spindles on either end. Right now, I have the little cap that this comes shipped with.

So this is going to make sure that everything stays relatively rust-free in transit. Underneath that we'll have our washer, nut and nut keeper there and you can also see the grease circ on the end. That's going to give us the E-Z Lube application, so you can lube this up without having to take the whole bearing or the whole hub off every time to get your bearings greased up. So you can just put your grease gun on there, pump it up, then it's good to go.You'll typically also want to get the E-Z Lube grease caps, so that you can just pop off that little rubber keeper on the end. So again, that you're not having to remove the whole cap to get that done.

The caps are sold separately, as well as the bearings, seals, hubs, drums, brakes, all that good stuff. You can find all those things right here at etrailer.com, if you want to pick them up while you're getting your axle. But as far as the specs for this, it's going to have a 7,000 pound capacity. So that's going to be a pretty high weight rating for our axle. Has a four inch drop, so that's going to lower our trailer down a little closer to the ground.

The big advantage with that is that, it's going to make it a little easier to get any kind of vehicle loaded up onto our trailer. Because if you think of it, when our trailer is up high and we have ramps on the back of that, they're going to be at a steeper angle. If we lower that down, the angle of our ramps also comes down again, making it easier to roll anything up onto that trailer. It's going to have a length or a width of 95 inches from hub face to hub face. So, that's going to be when the hubs are actually on from the outside edge to outside edge. If we go from the spring seats, which are going to be that little welded piece underneath there.

This is an underslung design, so our suspension mounts to the underside of the axle. Measuring from the center of each of those spring seats, it's going to be 79 and a quarter inches wide. The tube itself is three inches in diameter. The bearings, which again are sold separately. We'll need an inner bearing that is 25580 an our bearing of 14125A. It also has a brake flange configuration of a five bolt design, so you'll see that there. This also comes with a five year limited warranty and it is made in the USA, but that's pretty much going to do it for our look at the Dexter Trailer Axle Beam, with 4" drop and E-Z Lube Spindles.
