Review of Dexter Axle Trailer Brakes K23-103-104-00

Speaker 1: Today we're gonna take a look at the Dexter seven inch left hand and right hand electric trailer brake assemblies, with the parking brakes. And these are for 2,200 pound axles. Now, electric brakes are a lot easier to install and offer more user control than hydraulic brakes. Basically, they require only an electric brake controller, which we do sell separately on our website. There's no actuator or hydraulic lines necessary. Now, these brakes we mentioned have the parking brake levers you can see right here in the back. These are designed to hook to your parking brake connection on your trailer. Now, these are manual adjustment brakes, so it does require a periodic manual adjustment. Now, when you go to adjust these, there's your gear right down here at the bottom.

You access the by this hole in the backing plate, and if you notice what's nice on these is that they do put a rubber adjuster plug in there to cover that access hole. Helps keep dirt and grime out of the assemblies and off the shoes. Now, this part will include both the left hand driver side, right hand passenger side brake assembly, and the mounting nuts to install it on to your brake mounting flange. These parts are made in the USA.Again, the dimensions on these brakes are seven inch by one and a quarter inch, and what those measurements mean is the seven inch would be the diameter from this brake shoe all the way across to this brake shoe, so there's your seven inches. And the one and a quarter would be the width of the pad on the brake shoe. There's your one and a quarter inch.We mentioned has a mounting flange bolt pattern. There you can see the four studs and there's the four nuts to install it.These do use a wheel size of 10 inch, 12 inch, or 13 inch diameter. The axles again they go on are 2,200 pound axles. And these are electric brakes.

If you notice, they have the two wires coming out the back, so they do need to be connected. One goes to the brake feed. One goes to the ground. And they're both white wires so either wire can be used for either function. And the last thing that I do want to mention to you is how to determine if it's a driver side left hand or a passenger side right hand. Most of the time when you get a new assembly, of course they'll be a sticker that'll show you that, but if the sticker wasn't there the best way to tell is you look at the length of the shoe or the pad on the shoe. You see this pad goes from here to here.

This one's all the way from here to here. This is longer. This one's shorter. The shorter pad is what will face the front of the trailer, and that's the primary shoe, so that will always face the front of the trailer. So that's telling you this goes on the left hand driver side. If you look at this one.

Pads here to here. This one is just here to here. This is the shorter or primary shoe. That'll face this way so that's the right hand passenger side. But that should do it for review on the Dexter seven inch left hand and right hand electric trailer brake assemblies with the parking brakes for 2.200 pound axles.
