Review of Draw-Tite Ball Mounts 40346

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Draw-Tite Ball Mount. This ball mount lets you hook up your trailer to your tow vehicle. The shank of the unit, which is this back bar here, this slides into the receiver tube of your hitch. Then the ball platform, which is this piece right here, this provides a 9.4 hitch ball. Now hitch balls are sold separately. If you are in need of a hitch ball, you can find those right here at etrailer.com. The unit's constructed of a really nice, sturdy steel construction. It does feature a hollow shank. You can use this in either the drop or rise positions to help insure a more level towing situation and the unit's going to feature a really well-done, black powder coated finish which is going to do a great job at protecting the unit from rust and corrosion. Now when you insert this into the receiver tube of your hitch, you line up your pin holes, and secure it using the hitch pin and clip, or a hitch lock.

Now those items are sold separately, so if you're interested in one or if you are in need of one, you can find them at etrailer.com. The back of the shank is angled which allows the mount to slide into the hitch very easily. This is designed for a two inch by two inch trailer hitch receiver. Gross towing weight capacity is 6,000 pounds. Maximum tongue weight for the unit is 600 pounds. There's a few measurements that I took. The first one that I did was I took a measurement from the center of the hitch pin hole to the center of the hitch ball hole and got a measurement of 10-1/4 of an inch.

With the unit in the rise position, it's going to give us a maximum rise of 4-3/4 of an inch. That's measuring from the inside top edge of the receiver tube of your hitch, going straight up, to the top of the ball platform. That straight line measurement is 4-3/4 inches. Doing that same thing with with the unit in the drop position, that straight line measurement is about 6 inches, so rise is 4-3/4 inches, drop is 6 inches with this unit. Then the ball hole diameter right here is going to measure 1 inch, so keep that in mind when choosing a hitch ball. That's going to do it for today's look at the Draw-Tite ball mount..
