Review of Erickson Tie Down Straps EM34420

Speaker 1: Today we're gonna be taking a look at the Erickson Retractable Ratchet Straps. These tie downs let you secure cargo in your truck bed or trailer. It does come in a four pack and it can be permanently mounted. Hardware to do so is not included but on the bottom side you will see a mount hole that you can use for a permanent mount installation option. Or you can use these as traditional ratchet straps and keep 'em portable. It's totally up to you.The retractable straps automatically wind up into the built in housing with the push of a button so that way you don't have any excess strap to tie off or secure and it keeps the straps neatly stowed when they're not in use.

Then you have the easy to use ratcheting mechanism. This makes it easy to tighten down the straps and maintain tension on the straps. It's got a nice rubber coating on the handle that provides a really nice, good comfortable grip and then the push buttons on the ratchets quickly and easily release the straps or release tension when you're ready to unload.There are S hooks on the unit, one on each end. These are a vinyl coated steel so that's gonna prevent scratches to your cargo or to your gear. The diameter of the hook, including the coating, is around 3/8 of an inch and this opening right here measures about 7/8 of an inch.

The ratchet body is protected with some plastic casing but underneath all of that, you'll notice that it's a steel body so it's very strong and durable and it features a corrosion resistant zinc finish. The straps are made from seatbelt like polyester material. They're very strong and durable. Each strap measures one inch wide by six feet long. Each one features a safe working load limit of 500 pounds with a maximum load or break strength of 1500 pounds.

That bolt hole for a permanent mount installation measures a half inch in diameter and then the overall measurements.I took a measurement of the overall width, just here at the base, so from edge to edge of that steel body is about 1 5/8 of an inch wide. From this edge right here to this edge right here, it's about 3 15/16 of an inch long. Then if it's installed on a flat surface, it's gonna have a height from the bottom to the very top of about 2 1/4 inches.Please keep in mind that tie down straps must be chosen according to their safe working load limit so the weight of the secured cargo must not exceed the combined working load limit of the straps being used.
