Review of Flex-a-lite Transmission Coolers FLX4116V

Today we're going to take a look at the Flex-a-Lite Translife Transmission Oil Cooler and guard kit, has the 3/8 inch barb fittings and a class 2 rating. Now, this Translife Transmission Cooler Kit provides additional cooling to protect your automatic transmission from overheating, it is designed to mount in front of your radiator or air conditioning condenser. Cooler transmission oil will give you more reliable consistent shifts, and it helps prevent transmission damage which can happen under extreme towing conditions. Now, starting with the cooler, the cooler itself includes the transmission cooler, 4 foot rubber hose and the hose clamps, the male and female hose adapters, installation hardware for the cooler, and a nice set of detailed installation instructions. The cooler itself uses these half inch diameter brass tubing, and what's unique with this cooler is the inside of the tubes, they do have a high twist turbulator design to them, and what that does is as the fluid goes through the tube it actually causes it to twist which will help improve the heat transfer. If you notice the inlet and outlet have both 3/8 inch barb fittings on them. Now, this cooler is considered a 6 pass configuration meaning the fluid goes through the heat exchanger 6 times, 1,2,3,4,5,6.

This cooler is Aerospace Epoxy construction, and again, it is a class 2 rating. Just want to give you some measurements on the cooler, if we're going to measure from the edge to this edge, so you're looking at right at 12 inches wide. The depth is going to be right at 7 1/2 inches tall, or the height of it. Then the depth will be right at 3/4 of an inch deep. The guard that come with it also comes with it's parts also. This is the Flex-a-Lite cooler guard for the Flex-a-Lite FLX40116 transmission cooler. This cooler guard is designed to protect your transmission cooler from damage caused by rocks or road debris without compromising the cooler's ability to reduce the fluid temperature.

This part will include the aluminum cooler guard itself, the Gator clips, the Gator clips are nice because they're used to mount the guard to your tubing right there, and it gives it a gap, an air gap between the guard and the cooler when it's founded to help with the cooling. It also includes the 4 hose clamps, all the mounting hardware, some zip ties, and it also has a nice set of detailed instructions. Again, this guard is designed to fit the Flex-a-Lite FLX4116 Transmission Cooler right here. Now, I do want to give you some dimensions on the guard itself. The width on the guard is going to right at 9 inches from here to here. Now, these mounting tabs on the end of the guard, they stick out about 3/4 an inch on each end.

The height on the guard itself is going to be right at 7 3/4 inches tall, and the depth of the guard is right at 1 inch deep. Again, when you go to install this the guard will go right over the cooler just like that, and it protects the fins from getting any damage to them. But that should do it for the review on the Flex-a-Lite Translife Transmission Oil Cooler and Guard Kit, has 3/8 inch barb fittings, and a class 2 rating.
