Review of Flex-a-lite Transmission Coolers FLX4116XJ

Today we're going to take a look at the Flex-a-lite transmission oil cooler with the 3/8-inch barbed fittings and a class II rating. Now this is a custom fit part. It is designed to fit the 1987 to 2001 Jeep Cherokee XJs. On a custom fit part I always like to recommend to go to our website and use our fit guide. Put in your year and model vehicle and it'll show you if this will work for your application. Now this Translife transmission cooler kit will provide additional cooling to protect your automatic transmission. Cooler transmission oil will give you more reliable consistent shifts and it prevents your transmission from any damage during extreme towing conditions.

The kit does include everything shown here on the table. The transmission cooler, the aluminum direct-fit mounting brackets and C-channels 00:00:45, 2 of the 4-foot rubber hoses with the stainless steel clamps, GatorClips for installing the cooler to the brackets and then all the mounting hardware that's needed and a nice set of detailed instructions on how to install this to your vehicle. Now on the cooler itself, the tubes they use, they are brass, 1/2-inch diameter tube. The fittings for the inlet and the outlet are a 3/8-inch size barbed fitting and this is a 6-pass configuration. Basically if you look at it, the fluid would go through six different times to cool it. Now this is a direct-fit application with the Flex-a-fit radiator.

The nice thing on these tubes, the 1/2-inch diameter tubes, on the inside of them they use a Turbulator design. What that does is it allows the fluid inside to actually twist as it goes through and that improves the heat transfer. The cooler itself is made with Aerospace epoxy construction and it is a class II rating. I do want to give you some dimensions on it. We're going to do the width first. The width would be measured from end-of-tube to end-of-tube.

If we put the ruler on you can see right at about 12 inches wide. The heighth from the bottom to the very top is going to be right at 7-1/2 inches tall and the depth of the cooler itself is right at 3/4 of an inch deep. That should do it for the review on the Flex-a-lite transmission oil cooler with the 3/8-inch barbed fittings and a class II rating.
