Review of Flex-a-lite Transmission Coolers FLX45901

Today we're going to take a look at the Flex-a-lite heavy duty remote oil cooler and electric fan, has a class 5 rating. This Flex-a-lite remote mount oil cooler will provide transmission or engine oil cooling when there isn't enough space to mount a cooler on the radiator. It is used when the engine is prone to over-heating from towing, operating a vehicle in any hot climates, high speeds, or slow speed offroading. It does use the 5/8" diameter copper tubing in it. What's unique about this cooler is inside the tubing, they use a design called a high twist turbulator design. What that does is it allows the fluid, as it's flowing through it, to actually twist and that helps improve the heat transfer.

If you notice on the ends here, the inlet and outlets, they are 1/2" female NPT fittings. This is a 6-pass configuration. When we say that, that means the fluid goes through the tubing 6 different times through the heat exchanger. You've got 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6. It does use aluminum fins on the heat exchanger. The cooler itself is an aerospace epoxy construction.

Now it does include everything here on the table, includes all the mounting components and nice set of detailed instructions to describe how to install it, either as an oil cooler or a transmission cooler. Now on the fan that is attached to it, the fan diameter is 10". It is a straight blade design, which will generate more air than your S-shaped blades. It is made, the fan is made of a durable glass reinforced nylon construction. The airflow from this fan is 800 cubic feet per minute.

The fan has an average draw of 6.5 amps. If you notice, it's a 2-wire connection. The red wire is ground, black wire is the power. This is a class 5 rated cooler. Now I do want to give you a few overall dimensions on this. Let's turn it this way.

We'll start with the width from the edge of this tube to the edge of this tube. It's going to be right at 15 1/2". The height from the very bottom to the very top is right at 10 1/2". The depth of it from the front to the back of the fan is going to be right at 4" deep. Now one last thing I do want to mention that if you do use this as an engine oil cooler, a sandwich adapter will be required. The sandwich adapter, when you do want to add it, you need to know the correct oil filter thread size on your engine and the port size to get the correct sandwich adapter to use with this. That should do it for the review on the Flex-a-lite heavy duty remote oil cooler and electric fan with the class 5 rating.
