Flex-a-lite Transmission Coolers - Plate-Fin Transmission Cooler - FLX400030 Review

Michael: Hi there. I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a quick look at this Flex-a-lite Transmission Cooler. This is going to help cool down your transmission fluids, help them to perform properly in your engine to help cool your components. This is a very efficient system, and that will help if you are doing a lot with your engine, if you're doing some towing with your pickup truck or you're souping up your engine to race your vehicle. This is going to fit a very wide variety of vehicles. I would encourage you to come to etrailer.com.

We've got a vehicle fit guide. You'll type in your year, make and model of your vehicle. We'll let you know which components will work for you. But this one is going to fit a very impressive range of vehicles. It should work for just almost every application. But you can see, here on the ends, we have the 6AN fittings.

Those are going to be more for your performance type vehicles, using the braided steel hose. That will be a limiting factor but, again, use that vehicle fit guide to make sure that this is going to work for you. This is a nice, lightweight, and durable aluminum construction. It's going to hold up really well and efficiently dissipate that heat out so that your fluid can cool down. We've got 30 rows of this dimpled plate and fin design to help allow that transmission fluid to flow through there and cool down so that it can rotate back in. The fin design is going to help improve the cooling efficiency, to make sure that it is going to cool down.

And that dimpled plate, you can't really show it here, but those plates themselves do have dimples in them that stick up into the inside and that's kind of going to create a rapids kind of situation on a river. As the fluid flows around those dimples, it's going to be mixing together. Rather than just having a straight tube where the fluid on the outside is getting cooled down, but then the fluid on the inside could still stay hot, this is going to cause it to be turbulent in there to continually mix those fluids together so that all that heat is going to dissipate out. It's a really nice design. It's going to provide up to four times the heat rejection compared to your typical low cost cooler.

A lot of great options in here to help to eliminate that heat as it goes through. As far as our dimensions go, this is right at 11 inches wide by 10 inches tall, and it's only about three quarters of an inch deep. It's going to fit in well for you. They do include some nylon bolts to help get this installed, as well as your locking discs that will go onto those bolts, and some spacer pads, as well as installation instructions to make sure that you're getting this put in line correctly, where it's going to do the most good for your system. Again, if you are doing a lot of heavy towing or really pushing your engine and racing or something along those lines, this is going to be a great option to make sure that that fluid is going to be nice and cool so that it can do what it needs to do.That's going to complete our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching.
