Furrion RV Camera Power Adapter - FR74FR Review

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today we're going to take a quick look at the Seven Way Vehicle Power Adapter cable for your Furrion observation cameras. This is going to help solve a problem for many camper owners who have gotten a newer model truck. A problem that we seem to be running into a lot is that many of the newer truck models have a power management software on their seven pole plugs, which is preventing sufficient 12 volt power from reaching your Furrion observation cameras. So they're not getting the power they need to work. Obviously that is a problem.

So Furrion has been quick to act on this issue. They've developed this adapter, which is going to plug directly into your seven way on your tow vehicle. And it's going to allow you to hook up your trailer wiring here, acting as a connection between the two. It's going to use the power coming from your seven way plug. But then it's also got a built-in relay that's going to pull additional power from your camper's batteries, so that you can sufficiently power the 12 volt power to your cameras. The plug is still going to allow your truck to charge your camper batteries as it's running.

So you don't have to worry about it draining your camper batteries. You're still going to be charging those up with your seven way coming from your tow vehicle. But because this is going to plug directly into your seven way, there's not going to be any cutting or splicing or additional hardware required. So it's going to be a very simple solution. It does have a durable polymer connection body that is going to make it very weather resistant and impact resistant.

So it's going to be very durable for you.It is going to work with your Furrion Vision S RV observation systems, but it is also compatible with any of your other RV observation camera systems that need that 12 volt power. Now I will say that I think Furrion was more concerned with giving a timely solution to this problem that we're running into with some of those newer model vehicles. I think they developed this very quickly to help solve that problem for their customers. I do think this is going to be redesigned within the next few years. You can see we've got a mounting plate on our trailer wiring end, and it's got this flip cap to keep the elements out.

I don't think you're really going to need that. If you're having this plug in as just an in-between for your RV wiring, you're probably not going to mount this on your vehicle. So I don't really think that's necessary, but like I said, I think they we're just trying to get this product out to help solve that problem faster for people. It will, most likely, be redesigned in the next few years. But I think this is going to solve that problem for you. It may not look the best. They might come out with a fancier looking model, but I think this is still going to be the product that you need now to solve that problem so that you can use your newer model vehicle to pull your camper and still use those observation cameras; so that you can be aware of what's going on around you as you're backing up, changing lanes, those sort of things. So this is the solution that you're going to need to make sure that you can power up those cameras. And I appreciate Furrion's quickness in putting this out on the market to address that situation that we are encountering. So I think this is going to be a great option for you. If you have a newer vehicle that has that power management system, and you're wanting to use your cameras still, this is a great product for you. So that's going to complete our look at the Seven Way Vehicle Power Adaptor cable for your Furrion RV observation cameras. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching.

@Rick you are correct, it does say that it is not for 2021 vehicles. I would like to reach out to my contact at Furrion. Please let me know what make and model you need this for.

@Rick I just spoke to Furrion and they confirm that the Furrion # FR74FR adapter is no longer made, and the newer # FR69SR is not compatible with 2021 vehicles as you pointed out. BOTH of these products have been discontinued and a replacement that will work on all vehicles is being developed. It will probably be late Spring 2022 before it reaches us. I am sorry that I could not be more helpful.

Thanks Les for your time. The vehicle manufacturers should be responsible for a solution, now consumers have to pay the bill for something that worked fine in the first place. Anyway, probably wrong place to complain. I’ll stand by and wait with no back up camera. Thanks again, you guys are great.

Is this item available, and is it for 2021 vehicles. All I see is FR69SR

@Rick The Furrion FR74FR is no longer available, but instead you can use the Furrion # FR69SR. This adapter can be used on most vehicles as needed to make new truck trailering software work as desired.
