Furrion RV Transfer Switch - 50 Amp Automatic Transfer Switch - F50ATS Review

Hi there, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Today, we're going to take a quick look at this furrion 50 amp automatic transfer switch whether you're upgrading from a lower amp switch or you're wanting to replace another 50 amp switch that has been damaged. This is gonna be a great option for you. It will alternate between the two separate 120 volt or 250 volt power sources to help feed your RVs breaker panel. And that adjustment is going to be automatic. So if you are hooked up to a short power or an inverter and the short power for to fail this automatically will switch over to that generator when you get it up and going, if that's available.

And then if you we're to have the short power come back online that's going to then switch back so that you're not no longer needing your generator power. It does have a 20 to 32nd time delay function that allows for only one input to feed your RV's breaker panel at a time. So if when the short power dose kick back on it is going to prevent both from running at the same time and creating a potential back feed scenario. So everything is gonna be taken care of for you in that way. So you don't have to worry about it.

It'll just automatically do it. There is a timer bypass switch on here that allows you to turn off that time delay. If you are going to be using an inverter instead of a generator, because the inverters don't take a little bit of time to power up to full speed, like a generator does you don't need that a time delay function. So you can turn that off. If you are using an inverter.

Now, this is going to be a single pole switch. It's rated 450 amps, like I said and it is going to provide a 120 or 250 volts of alternating current. So either set up depending on what you have on your RV, this will work for that. As far as getting this installed it's gonna be very simple. You can see we've got mounting points on the top and bottom there but as far as getting all your connections made they do include instructions for you.

It's gonna be very easy to get your wires hooked up from your short power input and generator or in our inverter input. There is a wiring diagram on the front panel there. So you can see where everything is supposed to get lined up for you. The minimum cable size that you're gonna need is a 10 AWG by three. So make sure that you have enough cable to get everything hooked up. This does have a nice durable plastic casing. So you're not gonna have to worry about corroding or anything like that. Like some of your other options out there, the terminals are a nickel plated brass screw. So it is going to be vibration and corrosion resistant. And it's gonna meet the UL 94 and UL 1008 standards. So we'll be very safe for you. You can see, we do have about 15 of these cable knockouts here so that you can just route your cables in wherever it's gonna be most convenient for your setup and get those connected. So very easy to get that all set up. As far as our measurements go, we are looking at right about nine and three eights of an inch wide by gonna measure with the tabs there. It's right about eight and seven eights just shy of nine inches, tall and. four and three eights of an inch deep. Now our mounting holes here the mounting hardware is not included. So you will have to provide that yourself. But those holes from center to center are right about seven and a half inches wide and eight and three eights of an inch tall. So it should be very easy to get mounted in place of your original and get all those wires hooked up. Should shouldn't have to run too many new lines if you're just switching this out or upgrading your system. So overall, I think this is gonna be a really nice option with that automatic switching. I think it will make your life a lot easier so that you don't have to worry about if the power source switches in the middle of the night you don't have to get up and change it. Or if you're in the middle of an activity they'll just do that automatically for you. So you don't have to worry about it. I think you'll be very happy with this. So that's going to complete our look for today. Again, I'm Michael with etrailer.com. Thanks for watching..

Does this unit (Furrion Auto Transfer Switch) come prewired? Will I only have to connect incoming line from Shore Power and Inverter? Thank you, Tony

Famous last words here, yeah it should come wired but if not it has detailed instructions on how to hook everything up and connect it.

I'm trying to figure out if my switch is bad. How do I. How do I test it? I am plugged into shore power and the microwave and refrigerator and televisions are all working as they should, but I am not getting a charge to the battery and the house lights, canopy and other things that run from the battery you're not working. The battery has run completely down. I don't know if this is a power distribution problem from the from the Furrian device or not. Any suggestions?

@DaveM It sounds like your transfer switch is switching between one or two AC sources and is providing AC power to your power center which passes AC power to the AC appliances like the refrigerator, microwave and such. It also provides AC power to the converter in your power center. The converter takes the AC power source and creates 12 VDC power to operate items like lights and your canopy. It sounds like your converter has a problem. FIRST: If you are not comfortable and experienced working with exposed shock hazards I would enlist the help of an electrician or qualified RV service tech. I would first check all of the fuses for 12 volt power. I would check the power from the converter section to see that it is creating 12 volts for distribution. You may have a defective converter section. If you do, please provide me the make, model, and specs so I can recommend a replacement converter.
