Review of Hopkins Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring 33855

Today we're going to review part number 33855. This is the Hopkins Plug-N-Tow Vehicle Wiring Harness with the four-way flat trailer connector. Now this is a custom-fit part. It is designed to fit the 1996 to 1999 Subaru Legacy, the 1998 to 2008 Subaru Forester, the 2000 to 2008 Subaru Outback Sedan and Wagon, and the 2008 to 2014 Subaru Tribeca and the B9 Tribeca. Now on a custom-fit part, I always recommend to go to our web site, use our fit guide, put in your year and model vehicle, and it'll show you if this will work for your application. Now the vehicle specific connector on this harness is pre-wired. It does use original OEM connectors to give you a water-tight protection, a guaranteed fit, and even a nice look.

There is no cutting or taping when you install this harness. It does use a 16-gauge wire. Now the four-way itself includes this nice dust cap, so when you're not plugged in to your trailer, all you have to do is put your dust cap over the terminals and that'll protect those terminals from any damage or from the elements. Now each kit comes with everything shown here on the table. It's everything you need to complete the installation. Even has a nice set of detailed instructions that describe how to install it.

Now the converter that's on this harness is a powered converter. Basically what that means is it gets its power directly from the battery, so you don't have to run any power through your electrical system. Protects the electrical factory-- Electrical system on the vehicle. Now the converter maximum amperage is eight amps. Basically when you go to install this, what you'll do is locate your vehicle tail light wiring harness, there will be a plug that'll match this connector right here. Now on the Subaru Outback, it's usually behind the access panel on the driver's side tail lamp housing, and on the Subaru Forester, it's usually located on the passenger side in the spare tire compartment at the rear of the vehicle.

Basically when you find that plug, you just take the cap out, plug this in just like that. You want to make sure - right here is an in-line fuse holder - that it has the ten-amp fuse in it. Then you can see, there's a piece of double-sided tape right here. So you want to attach this so the fuse holder doesn't move around. And the same way on the converter, you can see they put a double-sided tape on it to attach this to a nice, flat surface.

And you can even use these included zip-ties to help hold this into place. And then you just run your length of wire right here out the back and then you're ready to plug in to the trailer to supply the lights. Now they do include some dielectric grease, which is always nice to use any time before you put your connection together. Put some dielectric grease on all your electrical connections, and that'll help prevent any rust and corrosion from forming. That should do it for the review on part number 33855. This is the Hopkins Plug-N-Tow Vehicle Wiring Harness with the four-way flat trailer connector.
