Review of Hopkins Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring HM11142214

Today, we're going to review part number HM11142214. This is the Hopkins plug-in vehicle-specific wiring harness with the 4-pole trailer connector. Now, this is a custom fit part number. It is designed to fit the Dodge Durango without the tow package starting in 2014. This is a plug-in simple custom wiring kit which will utilize your factory connectors to attach your trailer wiring harness to. There is no cutting or slicing required. The four pole connector right here on this end has the corrosion resistant terminals.

Pull off the dust cap, and when you're not using it, you can just put the dust cap on. This is installed on your Durango, and this is the very end of it that allows you to hook up the trailer and then plug in to the 4-way to get the lighting on that trailer. Now, this part does include everything shown here. It includes the power converter module with all the wiring in connectors. It includes a extra set of 14 gauge wire here which is needed to run to the battery on your vehicle. Includes this fuse assembly and the included fuse, 15-amp fuse.

A ground screw for grounding the white wire. Some zip ties to take up any slack in the wire or the extra wire, and it also has a nice packet of dielectric crease that you'll put on the terminals. Now, basically this power converter, this is a powered converter module which will adapt the vehicle's wiring system to work with the trailer. Basically when you install this, it will safeguard the vehicle's wiring system by pulling the power for the trailer lights directly from your vehicle's battery. It's not going to go through your existing car wires and protects them but you do have to run this extra power wire, so basically what I'm going to show you real quick is how it does install. If you go to the back of your vehicle, you'll go and these connectors are usually right located behind your taillights. If you undo the connectors on your taillights, these would plug into that.

This set of connectors with the yellow wire would be for your driver side, so that would connect to the back of the taillight on the driver side. The long green wire, it go over to the passenger side, and these connectors would go to the back of the taillight on the passenger side. Now, this white wire would need to be grounded, has an islet on it. Does need to connect to your good clean ground, so if there is a screw on your car that you can ground it with or use the included grounding screw to get a good clean ground. Now this other wire with a butt connector on is the power wire, so this would be connected to one end of this long 14 gauge wire and then the other end of the wire. Once it's run to the front, would be connected to this fuse assembly and then this islet connected to your battery.

Then, once you put your 15-amp fuse in there and then close it, your system be hooked up, all ready to go. Now, on this converter, this module, converter module right here, the maximum amp reach for stop and turn lights is 3 amps per circuit. The maximum for taillights is 6 amps. That should do it for the review on part number HM11142214, the Hopkins plug-in vehicle-specific wiring harness with the 4-pole trailer connector. .
