Hopkins Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring - Trailer Hitch Wiring - HM40975-11998 Review

Today, we're gonna take a look at the seven-way and four-way trailer connector socket, with the mounting bracket and wiring harness. Now, this dual seven-way and four-way trailer connector helps eliminate the need for an adapter, and allows you to tow a trailer with either a seven-way or a four-way plug. The connector is a high impact ABS plastic construction, uses a stainless steel spring for easy cover operation. You can see when you open the cover and release it, it'll pull the cover right back down. Same way on the four-way side.Has rubber gaskets on the inside of the covers. You can see right here for the four-way, and then right over here for the seven-way, so when it does seal it, it provides a nice weather resistant design, to keep the elements from getting to your connections.

Does come with this mounting bracket, for an easy snap-in socket installation. You can see, just push it into the bracket, it'll snap lock into place, and then to remove it, just push in on the two metal brackets, and you can remove it.The bracket itself is a black epoxy coated steel construction, and it'll mount to your bumper with the included mounting screws. Now, this kit also comes with this pigtail wiring harness, that can be hardwired to your vehicle, and then connected directly to this dual connector. Does come with the butt connectors you need to hardwire it, and a ring terminal, and then when you're ready to plug it into your connector, all you do is line it up, push it in there, you can hear it snap into place and you're all ready to go. To release it, just push down on the lever, and you can pop it right off.

Simple as that. Now, on this wiring harness, the wiring configuration, the red wire is gonna be left turn and stop, it's a 14 gauge size wire. The white is a ground wire, that's a 10 gauge size. The blue wire, right here, is gonna be for electric brakes. That's a 12 gauge size. The green wire is gonna be right turn and stop, and that's 14 gauge.

The black wire is for your battery. That's a 12 gauge. The brown is for your running lights, that's a 14 gauge. And then the yellow is reverse lights. That's a 14 gauge also. The wiring harness length is four feet.

I wanna give you a few dimensions on the mounting bracket for the connector here. The dimension on that, the length is gonna be four and three quarter inches. Overall height is three and one sixteenth inches tall. Total depth on the bracket is one and three quarter inches deep, and you can see the mounting holes at the top. One is a single hole. Next one is an elongated hole. The measurement on that, center to center, is two and three eighths inches, but with this one being elongated, it does give you some adjustment. But that should do it for the review on the seven-way and four-way trailer connector socket with mounting bracket and wiring harness.

I wish he had demonstrated shown with the GIANT ruler the total depth taken up by the assembled unit from face of socket to back of harness plug where the wires exit the plug Im needing to mount this inside the bed wall and cant tell if Ill have clearance between the bedside walls. Any way someone can send me that measurement, please?

The 7-Pole and 4-Pole Trailer Connector Sockets w/ Mounting Bracket and Wiring - Vehicle End # HM40975-11998 combination is 2-7/8 inches from the bracket to the back of the connector and 3-3/4 inches from the front of the doors to the back of the connector. If you need something with that specific purpose I recommend the 5th Wheel and Gooseneck 90-Degree Pigtail Harness w/ 7-Pole and Mounting Bracket - 7' Long # 51-97-407 which measures 3-3/8 inches from the back of the socket where it mounts to the bed to the back of the 90 degree bend. It also comes with the wiring you need for less splicing.
