Review of Hydrastar Trailer Brakes HS381-9067

Today we're going to take a look at the Hydrastar Marine electrical hydraulic actuator with the brake away and the 7-way RV harness. The actuator has a 1600 psi rating. Now, the electrical brake actuator will activate your trailer's hydraulic brakes when you apply the brakes on your tow vehicle. It does require the use of a brake control, which we do sell separately on our website. That is required to send the signal from the tow vehicle to this actuator when the brakes are applied. This kit does include the 7-way trailer connector which will transmit the signal from the brake controller. This will give improved performance when compared with surge brake couplers, gives you a lot faster response time, meaning the trailer brakes are triggered when you apply the brakes in the tow vehicle as opposed to when a trailer pushes against the hitch ball like on the surge couplers.

There's no need to manually lock up your brakes when you back up. The trailer brakes and intentionally be activated when you reverse and using your brake controller, there's a manual override that you can deactivate it so you can engage your trailer brakes without having to apply your vehicle brakes. Actuator does include an electronic proportional pressure valve that will ensure that braking is smooth and effective. The vented end plate, if I turn this right here, right under the wiring, you'll see there's a vented end plate. This is designed to release pressure, moisture, and heat in order to protect the internal components inside the actuator, and it allows the actuator to be mounted in place where most actuators would overheat. Has a built in bleeder screw right up here on the top, but you easily flush air out of your brake lines.

Its constructive and durable extrude aluminium construction provides superior corrosion resistance. They do use a marine gray gasket and stainless steel hardware. This makes the actuator ideal for marine use. Now, the brake away system, which is this part over here. This will activate your trailer's brakes if the trailer disconnects from your tow vehicle. A battery charger ensures the system's battery is always charged.

The battery's inside a nice weather resistant polymer case which is top loading for easy access from above. Has a built in mounting bracket. Offers simple installation. Comes with the brake away switch right here. The insulated 7-way RV trailer connector's molded to protect the wires and the terminals. It's a weather-proof consurosion 00:02:15 resistant 7-pull junction box is used right here that you make all your connections in.

Protects the wires or eases the installation. Makes diagnostics pretty simple. Has the ring terminals and butt connectors are all included for connecting your wiring. Here's a lot of your connectors all over here. The 6-foot wire loom, this will protect the wiring from the elements and allows wires in and out along any point of the loom for easy installation. Now, this kit includes everything shown here, the Hydrastar Marine Electrical hydraulic actuator, the brake away system, 7-way trailer connector, 7-pull junction box, a 6-foot wire loom, and as we mentioned, the mounting and hiring hardware, and a nice set of detailed instructions of the brake away system for the actuator. This part is made in the USA. A few specs just to go over on all these items. The application for this is a single tandem or even a triple axle trailer with disbrakes. Maximum output pressure, 1600 psi. hydraulic port size right here is 3/16 of an inch. The actuator wire configuration, which comes out of here, you have the black wire, which is the 12 volt power. You have the blue wire, which is for the brake controller, the yellow, which is for the brake away, and then the white which would be your ground. On the brake away system, the battery capacity is 5 amp-hours. The brake switch I mentioned has a 6-foot long connector length right here that you would connect between the trailer and the vehicle. Now, on the 7-way molded plug right here, the wire gauges on these, the black and the white are a 10 gauge, the blue is a 12 gauge, and then the remaining for the brown, red, green, and yellow are all 14 gauge wires. That should do it for the review on the Hyrdrastar Marine electrical hydraulic actuator with the brake away and the 7-way RV harness.
